Busy weekend and some indecision on the tank mounts.

I like the thicker wires. Of the were brass or aged brass would have used the vintage Bronze or tarnished copper ones.

So, I am back to the 20 Guage brass wire.

Went on the Tall Bike ride ( Wednesday night ride) last night.

Me looking like killroy at one of the street lights. Hot night. Wind in the hair dries sweat immediately... A bunch of people riding.

Bike rode very well. Still want a front fender when I see a gutter like this with no irrigation lines near it. Dunno what the liquid is...

I do know I don't want it splashing in my face

Fender minus paint already has plenty of rustisfaction. Might not be as hard to match the frame as I was thinking ...

Brass wire brushes come in two forms. Pure brass, or brass coated steel. The latter just takes if rust and scrapes down to steel.

A real brass wire wheel takes the top layer of rust and polished the lower layer of rust dark. It also polished scratches out of the non rusty part.

Yes it leaves a little brass hue on the rust as an added benefit.

Seems to match the frame well.

Hot weekend here in Vegas. Indoor activities mostly.

Yesterday,

Spent some time sanding the front fork with 1500 grit to take the high gloss off the fork. Added a little clear to the fender and bolted it on.

Put the fork back on early before work and took a couple pics.

This build is getting close to done. Figuring out if I want a light on the fender that matches the bars and the strut rods. Might dig the other half of the front fender and see if I like it on there.

Thought I would pull out the body hammers for this one. Added a little of a ducktail to the end that was prettymangled a few years back. Peaked fender with a ducktail...

Started stripping. They say you can make money at it... ...anyway, after the layers of blue I put on, and a layer of black on part of the fender, found it was originally white and mint green.

More stripping yet todo.

Cleaned the rest of the paint off this morning and hit it with the brass wire wheel..

I will probably hit it with the brass wheel again when it's over 110 today. Leaving it in the sun until then.

After a little work this morning fitting and the clear the back fender, sanded with some 1500 after my work and put it on.

Stripped

Cleaned with a brass brush.

Brass machine screws 10-32 lamp top nuts and a couple brass nuts each.

In the 1/2 shade of the pergola.

Nice pattern on the seat and chainring reflection in the fender.

Getting really close to done. 2 things left on my non-list.
Lighting. And a Pedal stand.

I just love how all your parts blend together so well with patina and your gilding work.
The only thing that's still bugging me is the fork. Any chance to get a matching patina there?
But that's nitpicking on a very high level here. Love the build!

Yes. The frame had clear coat on it when I started. So I clear coated the fenders and then sanded with 1500 grit paper to tame down the gloss. I would usually use flat clear, but with what was on the frame I tried to come close.

I know what you mean. I'm usually a fender delete guy.. I almost removed the front because It looked off with a front but no rear fender, so I added the rear to see if it worked with the build. Now it's together it flows and looks better than I expected before I put the front fender on.

The forks that I have don't have any patina hiding under the paint like those fenders did. I thought about stripping it down and adding fauxtina, the brass/red does seem to almost match. Will ponder on it more and see if I decide to switch it up.

One step closer to the edge..

A light arrived today. Took a brand new light that looked like this and gave it a bit of rustina.

Sanded

Sprayed chrome, sprayed texture, added mustard, sprayed texture, sprayed a few alternating coats of chrome and walnut.

Added the mount to the fender.

Cleaned off the mustard and sanded a bit more after this pic.

Result is close to the 40s bars.

I am liking the fenders more and more.they seem to fill in the gaps to tie it together.

Edit. Looking at this last pic more, I am not sure if I want to mess with the paint on that fork. It matches in well with the wheels and crosses over to the chainring and pedals.

Thank You Kingfish. I think it's pretty much done. Just dialing it in now.

I might move that light from the fender to the stem bolt. Sure makes that braceless fender rattle a bit over every bump.
