I think I might do the paint layout similar to this. The colors are close and I like the style. I don't know what vintage a Cheater Slick 3 is but it's pretty cool.

I like the white letter tires.

My work space is outside and we're getting rain and snow for the next 2 weekends so I won't be able to get much work done on the bikes. Hopefully I'll be able to get this one done by the deadline!

The yellow one is a restoration. Huffy never made graphics like that. You can do whatever you want, of course. Make something totally different like that yellow one, or what I showed you for Super Fueler, or you can go with originals. Or you can make them close to what Huffy did, and slightly modify it, like I did for this bike I made.

I am thinking about a drag racing motif for the chain guard if I can find something I like. The decal I like best is the black one:

I think it might be from an earlier year? Not that it matters on this build. I haven't bought it yet because I'm not sure I want to spend $30 on it.

Here's a couple more with that same chain guard. I don't care for the graphic on this one but I also haven't seen one available.

Made a little progress today. The stem was stuck in the fork tube and one of the pedals was also stuck. They've been soaking in WD40 for the last week and they finally came free. The pedal just needed a tap from the dead blow on the wrench to break free but the stem was a bit more of a challenge. I stuck the forks in the vise and used the bars as leverage and it finally popped free. After I got the stem out of the forks the wedge just dropped out. Not much rust in there, it was just stuck.

I did a quick mock-up to get an idea of what it would look like before it got too dark to take pics.

I think this fork is just perfect for this bike. Nice job on finding that one @CRASH !

I did a test with the paints I got for this bike and I'm not feeling it. I think I need to go to the parts store and see what they have. I need to pick up some Duplicolor Effex anyways. It's just going to take a couple hours to go there and back so a bit of a time killer.

The Huffy headset wouldn't thread onto the forks so I think they are British. I had picked up a die for this build off just in case I needed to modify a fork tube and this was the first go round with it. I really need to get a handle that fits this thing, but the vice got the job done.

I threaded down an extra 1/2" to match the frame dimension. I still need to trim about 5/8" off so the fork tube is the right length but the headset works now and it bolts on to the frame. Should have more progress tomorrow. More mods to do plus paint and polish. But it's already looking cool so I'm jazzed!

The chain guard had a minor ding in it so I massaged it a bit.

It will need a little glazing putty but should be fine. Now I need to mess with the mounting brackets.

The frame rear triangle needs a little more clearance around this huge slick.

Three out of 4 stays need some work. I had thought about cutting out the braces and opening the triangle up more but the suggestion of dimpling the tubes sounded like it would be worth a try.

So I broke out the Hobart and fabbed up a tool like the one made by @GuitarlCarl and suggested to me by @CRASH . A set of cheap vice grips and some scrap metal:

Looks like it's going to work pretty well. Tomorrow I'll break out the propane torch and dimple the stays.

Then there's the metric ton of everything else that's left to do. I'm considering new paint colors. I may switch to a green seat. I like the idea of an orange or gold being one of the colors. If I get into town I'll see what they have at the parts store. Anyone have any suggestions for the paint scheme?

What's your current seat selection now?

I have the black one that's on there and the green one that's in the mail. I don't have a pic of it, maybe @CRASH can post one if it's handy? I have a red glitter seat too but it's a modern one and a bit short. I don't think I'll have time to do a new cover but re-covering the black seat is a potential option too. I've only got 3 weekends max to mess around with this bike so time is of the essence.

Just my opinion but I don't think that red seat looks small at all. Bike would be sweet with a silver base, red metalcast, and maybe some effex. Make that seat pop. Red sparkle grips. Silver and black logos

🤷‍♂️

I could see a Rats Gass type fade on there as well 🤘

I like that idea too. I was thinking about the Metalcast paint but wasn't sure how it would look in a fade but I had forgotten about Rats Gass, that bike is rad! I'm liking the idea, more to ponder. Thanks for the suggestion!

Nope. Never took a full pic.

I like Captain Awesome's suggestion. That's what we were talking about earlier today.

Something else to remember about rattle can: It's WEAK. So be very careful with it.
Definitely on the spray bomb paint. Maybe that seat will show up tomorrow. I'm kind of liking the red seat idea at the moment. Thanks guys!
