It's pretty unnerving for a first timer with the quality of the builders on this site to think this is what I am up against

I know what you mean...this will be my third BO. It can feel very daunting to compete against some of the professional and talented builders here...but the majority of us are just everyday folk who just like tinkering around and exchanging ideas.

My tip to you...don't focus on what others are doing or how they're doing it...just enjoy what you're doing! The positive camaraderie here is enough to encourage you to step up your game. If you follow these simple thoughts, your end result will be a top winnerl ;)

Enjoy and have fun!

Me? I intend to build a bike...

Luke.

Me too!!!! I have decided on the bike and am assembling a parts pile. May have taken a bit of more than my skill level but love a challenge!!!

It's really hard not to have fun during the madness of the build off!!!
I wonder who has been in the most build offs? I'm still a rookie, this is just my 4th BO.
I think Smoopy has been in most, if not all, of them.

Here is a question for everyone.
HOW MANY BUILD OFFS HAVE YOU BEEN IN????
2nd year for me...Still a noob...;)

Here are a couple teaser pix for what I hope to use this time...

I've been stockpiling parts for this thing since last fall. I started digging them out over the weekend and already found problems with a few of them. I bought a beautiful used Campy crank and the left arm is cracked. I found a real pretty stem in my stash and it doesn't play nicely with the bars I picked out. Got a bottom bracket adapter and no spindle. The brakes are missing some little parts.. And the list goes on...

Still looking forward to this one!!! :D

I was at the Ann Arbor bicycle show is weekend looking for parts for my build. I'm going to stick with the original idea I had at the being of of this thread and build a Hot Rod girl's bike for my wife. She's excited about it. I'm good with the new rules, but I'm going to stick with a more traditional style Rat Rod build. But I am going to make some slight modifications because that's what Hot Rodding/Rat Rodding is all about!

I look forward to seeing everybody's builds!

Have fun!

I am in for my second big build-off, 5th build-off in a row though if you included MBBO's and the Winter build... Pretty sure @bean from Rockhampton and @Pushie Pirate from Lord Howe Island is in, so that is at least 4 with you... @Funkme is an Aussie too, but living in Greece, not sure if she counts...

Luke.
My ears are burning.... I'm right here Luke...:21:.
I know I am the only Aussie in Greece playing,Mmmmm & maybe the only one representing Greece...:113:

Well,my home base PC PSU exploded, and thats where all my photos are.... A lot of hair pulling, words that should never be repeated, and still trolling the net 2 get pics back.... Lucky I found the one pic I wanted, and aiming for in my build... Also glad my grey matter still remembers my ideas. :confused:o_O
Four o'clock, I've been think'n' all night.
It's the time I always think of you.
If you could only see through my eyes, Then you'd know just what I'm goin' through.
Here am I, I'm taking a chance, In running around with stars in my eyes. Here I am, I'm looking for you, Wondering why do I feel so blue.
I'm dreamin', dreamin' of me and you.
Oh I'm dreamin', dreamin' will see me through.
Never let any chances pass me by, I'm gonna dream you right into my life.
Yeah, dream you right into my life.
Dreamin', dreamin' will see me through.;):39:

[quot"baldwooky, post: 807631, member: 18922"]Man o Man your hint.
Its very similar to something I got cooking.[/quote]
That would be scary if someone was thinking like me lol

Go for it, that's not what I'm gonna do, and I highly doubt Dragnusa is doing what I am either. He might be close, but mine won't be chain driven ;)

We all end at a common time, but the start time is May 1st in whatever timezone you're in.
Been trying to find this rule spelled out clearly, but can't find it... Interested as I need to get as much done as possible before we hit the depths of winter here, I know I will lose about 4 weeks in the middle...

Luke.

Hey whatevers clever.
I've shown people my concept sketch for the bike at work and home, and everyone looks at it, and looks back at me, and wonders what actually is going on in my head.

I've had no less than 3 people tell me that I'm crazy, and why in the hell I would do what I'm planning.

In preparation for the build off, I couldn't wait, and wanted to do some test runs of my paint finishes. So, instead of working on the bike, I spent the past month or so making a costume to wear while riding my bike. Perhaps I'll go to a convention or something sometime with it on and the bike.

But oh yes, I cannot wait till Halloween(roughly when the bo ends) to bust it out on the bike path.

It's pretty basic. The build off rules typically state that it starts on May 1 (no time zone specified). Then there is a common end date and time (timezone specified). So, you could theoretically start at 12:01 AM Oz time on May 1 and get a 14 hour headstart on someone starting at 12:01 AM EDT May 1

Of course if someone starts at 12:01 AM EDT they'll be getting at least an 18 hour headstart on me regardless.
