Got this '41+/- Elgin from deadwrench a week ago. First major issue is a stuck stem. I've been waiting until May 1st to tackle it. I have collected some parts for it over the last week and some from my stash have been around for a while to pictured later. I think I plan to paint it using some original Elgin color Scheme. If I can save the fender over fork I'll look for a rear fender to match.

Oh yeah!
Gonna love watching a MF curved barbell build.

Some possible parts for use in reviving the Elgin to a rider with some curb appeal, not sure about the tires. Tires may depend on frame and trim colors.

Took off front wheel and fender stay, drilled a hole through bottom of fork. With the frame upside down I filled up the fork with penetrating oil. After it soaked awhile I got some lateral movement with stem. Tried a few upward strokes on stem with rawhide mallet, a little movement. Filled up the fork again, I'll let it soak overnight. Chain seems like it will loosen up after being oiled.

We have a new 4-1/2 month old Beagle pup. My shop maybe backyard shade tree this year. She was interested in the proceedings today. I owe her a new nylabone though as I oiled one today.

Looking forward to this one! Your Colson was a fave of mine last year....looks like you are on to another great build!

Well the stuck stem gave up a good fight after soaking overnight. My vise doesn't have a stable support base so a little back yard Improvision paid off. Stem out, fork and over fender saved. I took the rest of it apart except for bottom bracket, wasn't ready to get greasy. Now come the decisions for future direction.

Great frame, dig that fork.

Glad it all came apart for ya.
Great collection of parts
I really like the idea of using ad copies and markers to test out different color combos.

Playing around with some paint today. This is off the shelf rattle can stuff so color variations are limited. Two shades of Hunter Green and one Lime Green. I couldn't find hammered colors in greens and not wanting to use matte finish.
I wasn't able to find orange and brown that complimented each other. So I think colors are up in the air, I have an idea as to what I want to see, I'm just not seeing it yet. Need to maintain an old school look.

You're putting green paint on your Elgin frame and I've gotta scrape green paint off mine...
I noticed that in two Elgin builds on here. According to catalog specs the girls model was offered in green and white and two tone green versions. The boys was offered in a bunch of color versions including green and black with white trim. I guess I'm after a stock/custom look. After the sun went down the lighter dark green doesn't look too bad. Decisions, decisions...
