Haha, I read this an thought "Who has he been talking to?" With friends this eventually comes up... I've never eaten or tried cheesecake. Ever. I'm 35 years old and it's never been in my mouth. I'm at the point where I'm afraid that if I try it and love it then I will be upset that I've wasted 35 years and I may try to make up for lost time and double my weight, or I may try it and be indifferent about it and feel ripped off that I didn't hold my ground and just never try it. Catch 22... kind of, but only in a crazy person's mind.

You a machinist, or just play one on the internet? I had a chance to buy a Bridgeport knee-mill pretty cheap but a phase converter is $$$.

Last off-topic post, I promise (well, this time).

I have been looking at woodworking sites, some of those guys have pretty good plans for phase converters made from old 3-phase electric motors if you have access to those. You lose some torque so you have to size properly, but it may be an option... Next mill that comes along is mine...
