I just appreciate how much time you spend test trialing ideas then going on to improve on the items out of sight.

Over the past 7 years or so I have been coming across visual people.

If they can see it they can improve it.

Every one of your bikes has been an ongoing inspiration to me, so any change you decide on is most likely the best way for it to be indelibly your creation.

I am very flattered by the compliment. I am definitely a visual person, that's why I post so may photos. There just isn't room in my shop to stand back and stare at my work.

I don't think I posted the work I started regarding the 48 Chrysler tailight.

Started fabbing the bracket.

Started breaking down the light that I plan to mount inside.

Cut a hole behind the half marble glass to be able to slide the triple LED behind. This half marble magnifies whatever is written on it, so I may have something on there.

I love seeing wood framing parts show up in bike builds, been there done that.

Re: FireWing 53 Columbia 3 Star-7/7 Creme Tank Black Nanner

Spent time this weekend putting final sandings and paint on some of the parts (skirt guards, flame skirts, etc).
Also sanded down the tank halves and the nanner.

The tank will have flat black, satin creme, and primer red.
First the black

Then the tedious taping

Followed by creme

Most of what is now black will end up primer red after the paint cures and follow up with another round of taping.

Sanded down the nanner and laid a couple of coats of flat black on.

That's why I build outside! (Well that and my shed is full of bikes and you can see daylight through the roof anyway) All the space in the world to stand back, look at it, adjust things, look at it again, tear it down and build it again, look at it some more, drink some coffee and think on it some more.

I am always amazed by the hours some people will spend on something most people will never notice. I went to a car show recently and found a guy that spent 4 days modding his front bumper. He cut a 1/4 inch out of each side, 1/2 inch out of the mounts, added 1/2 inch of height, and tucked it perfectly into the car's body lines. It looked like the factory made it that way and nobody really noticed but I commented on how nicely everything fit together and he explained that it wasn't as easy as it looked. That reminded me of how you build Kingfish, no detail is overlooked and everything just fits together even if it doesn't belong together. You make it look easy.

Re: FireWing 53 Columbia 3 Star-7/7 Creme Tank Black Nanner

Thanks a bunch outskirts! I'm just having fun using my redneck engineering skills to make stuff fit that don't belong together. Like Harley tires and water skis. :p

I'm right there with you but with a whiskey flask, golf clubs, and a broken kid's scooter

Whisky flasks make good battery compartments. I used one last year and hid the switch under the cap.

You know what Smoops, I hadn't really thought about it yet, but now that the black is on there, those tab holes are a distraction. Thanks!
Now where did I put my bondo?

Re: FireWing 53 Columbia 3 Star-7/8 Tank Spray Paint Complete

Taped the tank up to prep for the primer red paint.

I am pretty pleased with the results. Small touchups needed here and there, but pretty good. I left a line of flat black separating the primer red and creme.

Roughly held it to get a bike perspective.
