Fixin the Fixie (ORBO)

I picked up this SS/ fixie bike to try the fixed gear thing. Aaaand it isn't for me hahaha.

I gave it a bit of a make over, as i really didn't like the white on white on white. But just wasn't feeling the love

So I threw a couple bmx parts at it just for a bit of fun

Hmm, better, but still not there.
At this point, I stripped the bike for the white components formy Raleigh build for RRBBO16. And put the frame and fork aside.

So that brings us to today. Whilst scouting through the parts pile for parts for a MBBO bike, I spotted the old fixie frame. I squinted a bit, and thought hmm, That might just work.
So I made a couple cuts to see if it's viable.

Bit of a cut here, and a cut there.

Yeah, that might just work.

Hang on, I came out to the shed to start a mbbo. Damn it hahaha. I'll try again for that in a few days.

No, was sold new as all white for a trendy look I guess. We don't have ghost bikes in Australia.

Had a dig through the paint stock, and found a nice purple for the frame.

I paint stripped the frame over the weekend, then found some time at work today to practice some TIG welding on the frame. Front turned out really nice. But a few too many gaps around the seat stays for a really neat job. Bit of filler required hahaha.

Made such a massive change to the look. I roughly based the measurement against my PL26 Redline.
Planning to throw some parts at it tomorrow for a mock up if I get a chance.

Mocked it up with the 700c wheels for a look. Working out OK so far.

I have a pair of 700C white tires and non-matching rims, and they seem huge compared to my usual stock of 24" rims and tires - but if you had not said I would never have guessed your wheels are as large as they are!

Wasn't 100% happy with the finish on the frame, or the colour.
Decided to open up the rear stays to fit a 26x2.2.
Cleaned up the damaged paint and added a quick coat of primer to seal it back up.
Back to the paint cupboard to see what else is in there

Got some colour on. Nice metallic black. Looks deeep.
