I am building a replica of a very rare Motorcycle I have always wanted. Now has anyone built a foot operated rear brake like that found on motorcycles for motored bikes. I think coaster brake is what I am looking at, if not, I'll invent one. Thanks

theres has been a couple bikes i can remember that used a hand lever and some linkage for a front mounted coaster brake, im sure the linkage could be figured up so it works like a motorcycle foot brake though as long as you werent relying on it to "drive" the bike. Otherwise youd have to show me how it's done :)

If you can find a hub with a band brake it will be easy. I had a Shimano 3 speed with one a while back, but I sold it. I'll see if I can find some pics.

This one operates V brakes but could juse as easily run a drum brake.

XC204 - Thanks - That gives me a starting point for the front mount. There is a motor going on this bike. Now I just have to figure out what hub to use on the rear, or how to alter the rear hub as it is as a coaster break.

Oldguy I Think I would go with a drum brake witch if you got a 4 spd nexus or the like you would get gears in the process.I really can't see a way to make a rear coaster brake work as the chain needs to reverse to actuate the brake. The photo below shows the whole setup. the cable loop over the down tube is the stop for brake travel I got lazy should have made a solid adjustable stop . A stop in travel is necessary to prevent the brake cable from slipping or being broken, lots of force from foot pedal .
