Curb score, got a big dent in the down tube, aluminum frame diamondback outlook mtn bike.

Whats the opinion, safe to ride, or trash it ?

Depends on your definition of ride. 10ft drops, probably wouldn't last a day...occasional curb hop, maybe a lifetime. Anything in between, well, how lucky are you?

Since frames like that, or better, often come up on CL for $20-40...I can't imagine using one that was that damaged, even if free...ymmv.

...and the naysayers claim you can't cold set aluminum...

Just an opinion, but that bike is more unsightly than it is unsafe. Examine the frame welds and, if they pass muster, I doubt the tube itself would fail under reasonable conditions. Ten-year-old Diamondbacks aren't uncommon or especially valuable, so I'd probably just strip it for the free parts.

Part him out! Definitely not worth the time to fix. Be sure to recycle the frame with your pop cans though - I hate seeing recyclable stuff get tossed in the landfill.

An abused aluminum frame is a recipe for disaster. Dumpster time...

Its worth tearing down, mid level shimano running gear, good shifters etc, useable cranks, bottom bracket is tight. Alum brake mounts will come in handy, I know of a few alum bmx race frames for sale cheap due to brake boss damage.

When I recycle it, it will be cut beyond use.

Got different alum mtn bk frame that will go towards a single speed straight fork conversion, this diamondback is retired.
