That's a handsome ax buddy. Action looks pretty good. How's the intonation? Don't remember ever seeing a tobacco burst Telly. Looks really sweet.

The action is good, not lay flat barely touch the string kind, but somewhere closer to a perfectly set up acoustic.
The tone is cool! Very open sounding, and full 'after tones' that seem to hang long after a string is struck.
Plays well all the way through the 12th fret, which is about as far as I go!
I've always liked a black burst on a dark background. This is very late '50s looking and feeling; except with the chambered body it only weighs 5 lbs 13 oz. The body weighed in at 2 lbs 12.6 oz !

Very happy with the end product!

The Warclub Uke-made from a re-carved and expanded Tennis racket (steamed laminated ash) Doorskin (mahogany Laminate) soundboard and Cigar Box (cedar) back,

Laminated oak/poplar headstock via Mortise-and-tenon, Aquila strings, a modified Banjo bridge and Zither pegs. Louder and richer tone than I expected (I suspect the added resonance on the 'F' holes) plays really well when somebody else plays it :21:...and sturdy enough to silence music critics forever-
(not that I would ever do such a thing ask anybody I would never ever do such a thing no I wouldn't no sir)

This is my long term project...after some direction changes I started work on it again with my dad. A 1991 Rickenbacker 350 now with that Ratrod looking 1936 horseshoe Overwound by Lindy Fralin. I finally have all the parts to make it so. I need to plug the mid pup hole with wood cut from the original back & am pulling the neck off a 330 from the same year that needs a refinish. Going to eventually build a ‘30 scale bass neck for that one. Going with a Fireglo burst and some unique wiring like out of phase and a mid boost/ cut tone stack. One setting will be horseshoe direct out. The shoe rings for days...I tested it out in a Combo 850 tribute I built out of a Hannah Montana short scale guitar which is also in the pic. That one is getting a refinish in Royal Turquoise from a ‘58 Vette. Cheers!

Your Electronics skills must be light years ahead of mine (I just mastered the "tape the Contact Mike in Place method" last year) But I can't wait to see the finished product!

-and since you are "no purist" have you considered grabbing a wood chisel, some tone wood and a neck shim and going full-out Hollowbody on it for the best of both worlds? LOTS of sweat equity needed of course...

Far from it...still tons of trial & error and the occasional face plant! I started out pre-useful internet with basic wiring from diagrams, then circuit bending, then finally learned to read schematics when I dove into pedals & battery powered stuff from runoffgroove. Tons of DIY wiring resources out there.

Rickenbacker 300 series guitars are one of the most uniquely built guitars out there. They’re hollowed out from the back, the neck goes in all the way to the mid pickup and then the back goes on. They spray the conversion varnish over the frets, which I don’t care for...this neck is going to be natural, oiled ‘n super fast! Buying a Ric copy is illegal and few luthiers work on them so I had to learn how to make and fix my own for myself. I’m my only customer! The original neck & serial # was used by qualified luthier for a custom solid body based off the Jackson Brown prototype.

The latest Squire purchase. Totally rewired it to get back to the Jaguar roots.

Picture is mid process, I ditched the 3 way too and added the older triple switches. On, Tapped, On. swapped out the pups for some chrome Duncan 59's and it now has a 1 meg circuit in the upper set of controls like a Jazzmaster. Now I'm thinking of switching that out for an adjustable cocked wah circuit.

My attention. Been a guitar player for 45 years. Started playing bass in a ZZTop tribute act last year. Been building instruments since high school. I have a pretty cool list of clients. Some of the stuff I have been enjoying building and painting recently.

Very cool @Palepainter I do love me some ZZ Top. I've seen them 3 times blow everybody that opened for them away! Cool builds too brother. I wouldn't call myself a luthier, but I am a silver certified Fender guitar tech. I've been rewiring guitars 40+ years and last year I finally went to a school and learned from a luthier how to refret. I could do a down and dirty job before but it was good to be hands on with a master.

Good to see this thread re-activated again by some guitar playing / building RRB brothers!
@Palepainter , those are some cool, crazy, wild axes! And it's always fun to see what @GuitarlCarl is up to; I love the Duncan '59s.

My winter project this year was to build another Tele - style guitar. I really liked the fully chambered, 4 way switched, Barncaster I built in August of 2020 outlined in the thread. It's been my main go-to electric for the past two years. I wanted something similar, but with different characteristics this time around. I'm a pretty straight forward player, couple of solid settings and I'm good. So I stuck with the Tele design, and the 'Thinline' style body, single side chambered under the F hole. Then I went with a humbucker in the neck, and an extra hot single coil for the bridge pickup to pair well with the neck pu.

Merle Haggard style black pearl pick guard, on top of my custom finished blue burst top. It's a figured maple top cap, and I used 3 colors of Angelus leather dye to create the burst effect. Sealed it with Varathane Sanding Sealer, then 4 coats of carnuba wax on top for weather protection. Many of our gigs are outdoors in MN, humidity, sweat, sun, etc. The neck is a roasted maple neck with an ebony fretboard. Really like the feel and playability of the neck.

Here are a few photos of the process and finished product. Tried it out last week at an open mic here in Mesa, I'll see if I can attach a video of part of a tune.

I haven't posted in this thread for a long time. I could probably run a couple pages long but I'll stick to my offsets for a bit

These last two show the detail shot of my newest find, Highwood saddles. The threaded part is curled under, no screws sticking out the top. Hardtail Mustang here but they have different sizes to fit most Fenders.

Full on mutant. Early 60s Danelectro neck and tuners. Arm carve, bridge & neck buckers from an Epiphone Les Paul, mid from the bottom of my stash - a bridge pup from a 2010 Gibson SG. 5 way wired with neck and mid pups positions flipped. Gives me bridge and neck in switch position 2, neck alone in 3... Yeah stealth mod lol.

Very cool @Palepainter those graphics and the unusual shape really make a statement. Heavy guitars for me are one song so they need to make a statement. I've only ever owned one double neck it was the Ibanez bass / guitar SG body I flipped long ago and now wish I still had.
