I vote for pedal power, I'm a traditionalist when it comes to the true definition of a 'bicycle':

bi·cy·cle
ˈbīsək(ə)l/
noun
  1. 1.
a vehicle composed of two wheels held in a frame one behind the other, propelled by pedals and steered with handlebars attached to the front wheel.
Me too, but ya gotta admit a weedwacker on top of the back wheel would be pretty rad...

That chain line looks familiar...
KIMG0385.JPG

so I could do a straight chain line...

If I can find the original chain guard, it's like 4 ft long!
I'm not so sure about using the original sprocket either...

I can't reach my handlebars...
But I had to see what it looked like with them on.
KIMG0388.JPG

So there's a few things going on here. The normal springer has it's spring removed, so the old front BB is just a little higher than the back one. This mockup let me see that with out tearing the front end off of my Rockin' Rollfast to borrow it's bent springer. This leads me to believe I can use a bent springer although I may have to cut the spring down. I also got the seat post clamp on. I had the cut a slot in the tube. Now I can raise and lower the seat post. Where it's at now I can pedal fine but ain't no way I can lean forward enough the grab the bars AND pedal. Good thing bars ain't part of the plan...

I need to get me some new chain. This old one is twisted in places. (wish I had saved the chain from last couple garage door openers I changed out for folks... now I know.);)(Thanks Deven)

Carl, any way you can add on to those bars, have some rEEEEaally long pull back bars?
TBH, I like the way she sits right now! I can't believe I'm saying this, but it looks 'balanced'...as balanced as a bike the width of your garage door can look!

Those bars would look way cool 16 inches longer and about 6 inches taller. In my opinion That would look awesome. And offset the cantilever swoop!
Oh that's all a fine idea (see my early drawings)
If I wanted to build the bike we've all seen before.
I put them bars on cuz I knew it's look cool, but...

NOT
GONNA
HAPPEN

I'm pretty sure I saw one just like this at Walmart.
You need to come up with something a little more original if you want it to stand out.:wink1:

Are you going all Cheech&Chong chain wheel on this?
That's a look for sure.
But I have to be able to control this thing too.
The rake on the fork is gonna make this bike a little wonky and honestly a set of long tiller style handlebars would actually help. But I do want the T Bucket steering so in an effort to have a little control I think I need to do a couple things. One, have a larger diameter steering wheel so I'm looking for a vintage musclecar wheel, and two, I need to find a couple of good ball end swivels to fab the pitman arms and steering rod from.

I remember a buddy's charger that had a fake ivory spinning handle on the steering wheel in his charger.

Suicide knobs! I'm not sure what they were really called.

Carl, could you flip a set up apes around backwards like a set of aircraft handles? Hope that makes sense....

That's actually an idea I had for mine.

It's a good one. Use it.
Unless I suffer a catastrophic failure, there will be no handlebars on this bike.

Notice anything different? I stole the bent forks off of one of my other bikes, and ya know what? The Rockin' Rollfast looks fine with a normal springer.
KIMG0394.JPG

So it's a little longer, and steers wonky cuz bent forks do. But there is a need for a simple mod...
KIMG0397.JPG

Look at that  there ain't much room for a spring. Not even half a spring. But I've seen lowriders with that spring crown made longer. So I'm gonna find me one...hehe.

At this rate I'm gonna need me one a them there
"Pan - O - Rama" cameras too!

I was wondering how long this bike is.
I just measured my frame today, it's 6' 2.25". I think with the fork and wheels on it'll be around 7' 10".

I had an 8 inch twisted cage, which made the steering even more wonky. Doesn't bother me though once I got used to it...
