Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Arkansas City)

Yesterday I met a friend for lunch in another town. Took a bike to explore the town after lunch.

Great set of pictures (once again - :D )

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Arkansas City)

Great photos of the group and solo rides
I really like Nova's bike with the white wheels, grips, rack, and Country Rock tires
Favorite shot is the bike mirror reflection one :D

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Arkansas City)

Thanks all. Steve that bike is one we built for Nova's Father. He was diagnosed with cancer right after we started building it and passed away shortly after we gave it to him. It was given back to us. It's a great riding bike. Has an internal 3 speed.

A really short video of something we came across while on today's ride to breakfast and then shopping. http://youtu.be/hyop1KkmNUA

When we got home from our ride a friend called and asked if I wanted his old Rockhopper. I took it. Aired up the tires, swapped the seat and rode it to the store tonight.

parallel universe? I found a really nice Stumpjumper at a garage sale Friday.
asking $75 took my offer of $50.
Rose color, Shimano Deore XT indexed group, front sus fork, rear rack, toe clip pedals.
the thumb index shifter snaps from gear to gear.
reminds me a lot of the red Specialized you ride all the time.
this one is a keeper! :D

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Family Tradition)

Thanks Jerry.

Been busy with bike stuff around here. I'll try to get caught up...

My Dad has told me that his Dad used to tell him a story of how he (my Grand-Father) as a kid would get his bike to the top of a big long hill outside of town and coast all the way back into town. Years ago my Dad took a bike back to this small town and coasted his bike down that same hill. He has wanted me to do the same for a while so Saturday for a Fathers Day gift we drove 3 hours to Northwest Kansas to coast down the "big hill". Now coasting down the big hill is a tradition that now has been done by 3 generations of my Dad's family and I hope to continue it some day taking my Daughter and Grand-kids to do the same. At the time my Grandpa did this it would have been in the early 1900s and the road would have been dirt/gravel.

That is sooooooo cool!!! Great story and tradition.

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Family Tradition)

I wish we had long straight roads like that here in CT

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Family Tradition)

While out that way we also visited other places in our family's history

This log cabin (which was moved to this park) was built by some relative of mine on my Grand-Fathers side of the family in 1871.

Re: LocoJoe's Most Recent Ride (Chanute)

A couple days ago while I was out in S/E Kansas in search of RAAM riders I stopped in the town of Chanute where I stumbled upon a bike path. I had brought a bike with me so I got it out and rode what turned out to be a very short rail-to-trail. Less than a mile I think. So I just rode around the town for a while and stopped for lunch.
