This ones got my vote. Cool idea.
Oops! Made my decision while I was out picking some stuff up and grabbed some 3" exhaust tube for the hole sleeves too!

Just finished drawing out the templates for one side on some 1.6mm/16 gauge sheet, once I confirm it all works I will cut the other sides.

There will be two plates on each wheel separated by 1/2" or so and joined by tubing sleeves through the holes:

My biggest problem now is that I don't have a 3" hole saw or plasma cutter or even an oxy set up, so this will be all done by hand grinder and half-round file... o_O Not really looking forward to that!

Luke.

A bunch or 1" or 2" holes spaced around inside the planned 3" holes would be easier and still clean up with the half round file...

Not sure what you mean Carl?

Ok... I'm guessing four 1" holes would fit inside one of the 3" holes you need to drill, or you could drill small holes around just inside the edge of the big holes, either way I think would be easier than all with a hand grinder. Unless you're talking about a die grinder and still that's a lot of work. I'm just thinking about how I'd do it in wood, since that's what I work with more than anything else. I'm definitely not a metal fab guy.

Nice! I was thinking even slightly more exotic though:

Had a poster of a QV5000 Countach on my wall growing up, always loved those wheels...

Luke.
YES!! I was one of those millions of kids that had a Countach poster on their wall too. I still want one, the car not the poster!

Glad you like that front wheel Bike Bum! I think I see more widened steel wheels in my future...

I would be happy to get back that same poster!
Anyone seen a poster with a white QV5000?

No progress the last day or two, had my Brother in law visiting so we have just been playing video games and watching Netflix 'till 4am... :113:

Luke.

Slightly off topic but also after having one of these posters up on the wall it was all that I wanted..... that was until I actually got to drive one!! Part of my job involves driving cars like this and at 6'3" I was so bitterly disappointed after 20 odd years of desire...
Atleast you were able to stretch when you opened the door to look out to back it into a spot.

This was the poster I had. Ahhh, to be a kid again!!

Actually, that looks familiar, maybe it wasn't a QV5000 model I had...

Guess I wont fit then at my 6'4"+ then! :( Not like it was ever going to happen anyway... (Really I would prefer a late model NSX anyway these days...)

Work on the bike should resume soon!

Luke.

Bike progress! (Well wheel progress anyway...)

Thanks for the suggestion Carl with the small holes, in the end I just went at it with the angle grinder though. I will have some slight gaps to fill when welding the sleeves in, but that is pretty easy with a mig welder...

Pretty happy with the way they came out, even if they currently look more like vintage film reels than Lambo wheels, that should change for the better once I start welding the sleeves in.

If you know me by now, you know I had to at least try dropping one of the plates into a wheel to see what it will look like...

:rockout:

Note the little diagonal cut in one edge, that is so I can match it to the other side plate that got cut at the same time, just in case there is anything slightly out. The rear wheel plates have two diagonal marks.

I forgot to say earlier, I want your job! :cool2:

Another cool Luke mega wheel in the making.

I know what you mean. One of my favorite cars is the '60s Ford GT 40. My dad has two of them, a '66 and '67 I believe are the years, anyway, he's 6' 4" so he never drives them and I'm 6' 2" and I can tell you it's a tight fit. It's almost claustrophobic.
