Been looking forward to this!

For those that are worried that I have started early, I haven't, I do know there is still 13 hours until start time, just posting up my thread so that it is all ready when I do get something happening...

It is actually 2:45am here, I was just getting ready for bed when I got an email through that the forum group for the MBBO was set up, so I set up the rule thread and moved the notification thread over, and now I am too excited to sleep...
:forum:
What is it about Muscle bikes that turn us into little kids again?

So, my bike...

Well normally now I would be telling you exactly what I will be building, what dimensions, parts and steel I will be using, and also posting a drawing or diagram of the project...

This time will be different, you all know how I work by now, my methods for building and the like, so I am just going to post photos, and maybe some small explanations, I am going to be doing the sneaky, sneaky and not revealing everything at once. :bandit:

That being said, I have to take a break mid-October for at least a month, possibly far longer, so long in fact that I may not be back to work on the bike before the deadline, so I will have to have a riding bike by then. At that point I will get some photos and hopefully a riding video in case I don't get back to paint it and completely finish it, I will at least have something to enter.
I'm not happy about it, but it is something that cannot be avoided.

So, this is my build thread for "Pedro."

Luke.

With a name like Pedro I can only think of lowrider and Napoleon Dynamite.

So, it appears I am not too good with the sneaky sneaky thing, I get too excited with whatever I accomplish and want to show it off...

Here is your fix for today:

uummm ..uummm.. is that gonna be a front or a rear there Luke?.. looks wild already..lol
 That is rear Monstaah!

Front will probably be a version of the double wide bicycle rim set up I was playing with on another thread, a 16x3 rim sounds about right for the front, that will give me the proportions I want of 24" rear and 16" front, love me some rubber rake for the hotrod muscle stance!

Is that the "winner's cup".....? :21:
Imagine posting that thing halfway round the world! :headbang:

Actually it is surprisingly light, and the tire is surprisingly light too, should be pretty reasonable when together, certainly lighter than either of "BigJim's" wheels, front or rear...

Looks like you're going to put muscle into muscle bike!

How are you rolling the piece you added? It is way too round!!
I ordered that cylinder of steel last year but never used it, built the offroad "Mad Maxine" instead, it has been sitting here waiting for 12 months!

Glad I finally used it, I hate spending bike building money on things with a very specialised use.

I will have to roll some 16 gauge to widen the front wheel, hopefully I can do it myself around a gas bottle or something, could not have done it smoothly with that stuff, it was 1/8th" thick...

Looks like a fat soup can.
MO SOUPA MO DOUPA
This is gonna be fun.

A little update for today:

Stripped two 16" front wheels, one an old steel 20 spoke, stripped for the rim itself, and the other a 28 spoke alloy version, stripped for the spokes and hub...

Next step will be to widen the rim by splitting it down the middle and welding a filler piece in, aiming for somewhere around a 3" (75mm) total width, then drill new spoke holes and lace it up with the spokes and hub from the alloy version, still deciding whether to do a standard 3 cross pattern to the centre of the rim, or to use the 2 cross + side-to-side cross pattern I came up with in my "Lacing together two rims" trial, it wouldn't be as strong, but it sure looks cool!

Here is the 20" double rim I did the 2X+1X pattern on:
