Are there different size Monark front sprockets, for say girls bikes, different years and such? Can't stand the stout gearing I have and would rather go smaller in the front if its a option.

Yes there are different size sprockets for monarch.

I have this 44T

And I have a few of these 52T

A smaller front sprocket will give you more leverage and therefore make it easier to pedal. If its a single speed I'd prefer a taller ratio, I do a lot of low speed cruising with my 8 yr old.

Wow. Tough crowd, here. I understand the desire for lower gearing, and I understand the various ways of achieving lower gearing, which leads me to the drawn-out version of my question:

Why the preference for replacing the front sprocket for a smaller one, rather than swapping the rear cog for a larger one, which would achieve the same effect, but preserve the hawt look of a big sprocket on your monark, and most likely cost less?

Then I have to have a longer chain. Its already got a 19 tooth rear. No drama here with me, all good. This is my hobby, I don't take it to seriously, besides having fun. If I ever take it seriously, then it wont be fun to me and Ill quit doing it. :)

And I don't really care for a big sprocket, doesn't matter to me. I would rather have a good rolling bike than worry about a big sprocket, but that's me. I get why you'd want that look.
