I remember that being your plan for the wheels, but I thought the drum brake would be a good addition.


I looked at the pics again. The cranks for the mini twinn are shorter than the usual ones as seen here:

The ones that came on it painted red look like longer standard cranks also. With the lowrider forks might be a pedal scraper.

I'm glad you mentioned this. I looked and the painted red cranks are shorter. They are however in decent shape and look to be correct except for the date code 1966 on one and 1967 on the other but you don't see that part when it's installed so we'll pretend it says 68...lol. and of course having the wrong chain rings but I have a few sets. Now I got to clean those up... And my only day off Tuesday I'm going to rescue another bike... Someday it will get done...

Tonight's homework: Mini Twinn cranks

Well I had to fight my front eBay crank to get the sprocket nut off but after finding the big channel locks it finally decided to get with the program. All 3 chainrings are on the shorter of crank arms now.

Started by removing the paint with a razor blade then copper wool for the smaller remnants.

Mini Twinn crank on the left, full Twinn on the right. Roughly an inch difference.

Another day another parts bike. Number 3 for those still counting...lol. I picked up this Huffy Wild Rose today in amazing condition at the local goodwill today for $17 after tax and the round up for education.

This bike will donate the seat, handlebars, vintage Carlisle Super Ride tires, and sissy bar hardware to my mini twin build. It's almost a shame to put this one down because it's in such a nice condition but it's a girl's bike and next to worthless. Might just make a wall hanger out of it.

Ok it is finally in paint! I am rushing to get this thing done on time and it might just happen. I'll go back into it at a later date and fix a few minor things like the brake bridge later. Anyway it is looking good and this VHT Burnt Copper really pops. Also found out the fork is bent pretty good so I might rob the one off the Fairlady and paint it.

It's as close to Schwinn Coppertone as I could get without spending a small fortune. One of my favorite colors too.

Last part ordered for the Mini Twinn. With an unexpected move coming up I may or may not make the deadline but I'm going to try to get it rideable enough it qualifies. The chains will be spliced with whatever chain I have handy and I can swap them out later when I have the time extra cash to afford all new.

And it will be holding this awesome period correct legit Made in USA Louisville Slugger baseball bat. Found it hiding at the local goodwill store for $2.99 with the round up for education (I'm an Excell center graduate myself so I always round up) it came out to $4.

I got something special for the shifter... Top off an old baseball trophy. I'll be adding gears later on after I build that wheel set.

Fits the hand well too.

More done on the mini Twinn. Still waiting on tires and need to mount the baseball bat holder. Coming along nicely.

Still need to install grips and bolt on the chain guard and fenders but it's looking like a bike.

Also for those wondering the chain guard from a regular Twinn will NOT fit a Mini Twinn. You must drill out the rivet on the rear bracket, pop the spot welds, and cut about 2 inches out and put it back together. The front 2 bolt holes line up fine but the rear will need shortened. I was able to do this one without disturbing the original paint.

Front vs. Rear closeup. The rear is kinda skinny for a 2.125 tire but still awesome and exactly what this bike needed. Front is a 1.95 for reference which is actually a hair fatter. I'll get some better pics tomorrow morning but dang she looks good. I do have some vintage skinny whitewalls I might use as fronts with these rears then use the modern whitewalls on something else. Not sure yet.

still have the wheels from this one that has decent shape Vintage Carlisle super ride tires that would be perfect front runners with a vintage look.

That thing was a mess when you got it! Looks like they had the timing chain on the wrong chain wheel. The front and rear timing chain wheels look to be different sizes?

It certainly was. It had pretty much wrong everything. Only original parts were the frame, fork, crank arms, and bearings. I was still stoked to own a Mini Twinn even if it was a mess. It has lived a really interesting life. Someone really loved it at one time. They added cable stays and did a really factory looking job of it. Also added water bottle cage screws front and back. It was then sandblasted to bare metal and I could not find a trace of original paint anywhere so I took a wild guess and went with the best color that they came in... coppertone. I am slowly gathering parts to build a legit 5 speed period correct wheel set and derailer.
