My First Spaceliner

Since I got into the bike thing about 4 or 5 months ago, I started making a mental list of a few bikes that I really wanted. One of those bikes was a '62 Typhoon(check), another was an Electra Deluxe Relic(check), and a chrome Spaceliner. I've been looking at all the Spaceliners on RRB and never get bored seeing all the originals and customs. Today was finally my day and I picked up my own 'Liner. It's in really nice shape. It has, however, had the red repainted with a maroon color. I plan on repainting those pieces in either a candy red similar to the original or possibly going with a different candy color(green would be my color of choice). The tires on this are Allstate Safety Tread which I'm guessing are probably original. The pedals are brand new Wald's. Not sure if the hand grips are original. They look like brand new, but I've never seen any like them.

Now a question for you Spaceliner gurus...Is there supposed to be something attached to the underside of the rack in back? Maybe a light or reflector?

Thanks. It was a Chicago CL posting, but the seller was actually not too far from me here in Wisconsin. I didn't pay the "firm" price, either. 8)

I got a load of bikes that were on the way to the dump, one was a spaceliner.

there are a couple reflectors on the rack

chainguard has slots like a muffler shield.

Nice score! some 'Liners had a light on the rack, but I think yours just had reflectors, like the ones gotavan showed. You might ask JoeyMac though. He's either got or has had about every incarnation of 'Liner there is...

man, always love looking at a nice spaceliner. very nice bikes above and congrats on the finds. this just plays into the jch and hawthorne kick i have been on latley.

Couple more questions...

What style hand grips should this have? I really don't think mine are original.

What about the red stripe on the seat tube? Did some just not come with it or is mine missing?

Does anyone have a pic of an original pedal? I'd like to find something closer than the Wald pedals that are on mine.

I think the grips can vary. The Hunt Wilde ones I have on mine came with the Spaceliner. Hard to tell but thay are Sparkly red! (ebay). Joey has the decal that most dont have! (ahhhh) The pedals for the most part are jeweled pedals (original). I attached 3 types of pedals. 2 are currently on my Spaceliners. The one I am holding came off of a Spaceliner as well
