I've been thinking about buying this bike for awhile. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/detail.g ... 6854775808 Walmart has one marked down a little bit. I like the color, and the old school style pinstriping, even though it's a decal. I'd loose the fenders, and the chain guard. Maybe change the bars. Not much going on back here for swapmeets, so finding an old bike hasn't been easy, not that I need another bike. I'm still trying to talk myself into it. Dean

Cool, that might be the push I need to go get it. I won't be painting it though, as the color and decals are what I like about it. Maybe I'll shorten the fenders and paint them black, along with the chain guard. I like the fenders on the one in the link you posted. Dean

Here is my Cranbrook that I have at work.

yeah, i got an 09' cranbrook (champagne/silver with beish fenders and chainguard) and if your used to the feel of a good cwc or other classic frame, the cranbrooks frame geometry just feels too cramped. the first thing i did with mine is bought a stem with a bit more reach and ditched those handlebars, in my case for superwide cruiser bars (the seat is next to go on this 09). the stock aluminum wheels are good enough, but they are far from heavyduty. the cross section between the seat stays over the rear tire is visably welded crocked on mine, but small things like that just stand out to me. and since im 6'2", a longer seatpost helped too. now with the mods i made, its not too bad of a bike. im a fender freak, but if i wasn't, id had ditched the fenders cuz they will rattle.

i also bought an 08' next lajolla, for just about $20 more, you get a 7000 series aluminum frame and a 3pc crankset. both the cranbrook and lajolla have had about 200 -250 miles put on each of them, and except for the cranbooks slick graphics, the lajolla slightly edged it out. the schwinn delmar is the next walmart cruiser id look at. good luck!

I'm still trying to talk myself into buying it. I just spent $300.00 on a heater for the shop. That came out of my play money. I really hate the forks on these. I don't know what to do about that without having to do some paint work. I usually put a Schwinn style springer on these, but I don't have anymore, and I don't want to spend the money to get another one. Dean

I've got a Schwinn Point Beach I picked up there last year. It was kind of my daily beater bike. Stayed outside the entire spring and summer and it held together pretty good. The crappy grip shifter broke so she's just going single speed now. I mostly wanted it for the aluminum frame and canti mounts and the 1-1/8 headtube. The only downfall was the american size bottom bracket but it's workable. I was eyeballing the Scwhinn road bike they have there but online they have alot more stuff and you can have it shipped to your local store for free.

I bought one for the parts. Gave the frame to a friend at work. If you catch them on sale you really can't beat the price for parts alone. If you buy one make sure you grease all the bearings. Mine had very little grease from the factory.

update: just put a new seat on ( bell's magic cruiser in brown ) and what a world of difference! mine is exactly as you pictured and the more oe equiptment i relace with better, the more i like this huffy.

We haven't got Walmart down here, but we do have Big W, I saw some interesting looking cruisers in there the other day for not much at all. I think we might pick one up for a mate's military style build.

I stumbled upon the cruisers in Big W too. From what I can tell, they're pretty similar to these Walmart bikes, the guards etc look the same, but there some minor differences. Im keeping an eye on them for when they're on sale

That's the ticket, even for the frame and fenders they're not a bad deal.

ive ridden that exact bike up and down the aisles, and it rides pretty good for a crooked stem. i thought about buying it, but i havent bought a new bike since the 6th grade. im in 11th now.

i just got an 08 point beach from a coworker for like $20 last weekend. not a bad bike, but with a klunking from the 7speed freewheel in 4th and 5th, i swapped out a alloy wheel of same style as what was on the bike and it has a 7speed cassette with a 11-28 gear set. problem gone.

I'm not a fan of the gears stuff. My gripshift completely fell apart. I'm just keeping my eye open for a decent older mtn bike to swap all the parts over from and pick up a american size square taper bottom bracket. Then paint the frame flat black and slap some Schwinn decals on it. I really wanted the newer Schwinn Jaguar as it came with euro bottom bracket and actual MTB geometry. But for over double the price of the Point Beach this'll do. lol.
