So I still had my Western Flyer Super parts bike and a Schwinn that I got on a 3 bike deal from Huntington (paid $200 for all 3 and sold the OCC chopper for $100 so I was about $50 each into these.)

So here's what I got. 3 wheel workman industrial trike and an awesome 1960 Schwinn straight bar Tornado? Frame.

I have been searching for a straight bar Tornado frame to build ever since I got rid of my bike RaTornado. This one will be built in that style but with much more attitude. Bad Rattitude

So might be getting another 1968 Stingray. Already have a Campus Green one and now if all goes to plan I'll be getting a sky blue one as well.

I like ‘em! I know there are a lot of Schwinn / stingray purists out there…. I’m not one of them!

But I do like stingrays! -All original, incorrectly restored or just ratted out! They’re all cool to me…. As long as they are out of the scarp yard, it’s all good!

as I was actually anti-Schwinn at one point, due mainly to the costs associated with acquiring and restoring the bikes and the nuisance proprietary wheels, as I continue to grow my collection, I’m noticing a lot of stuff I’m wrenching on has that darn Schwinn head badge!!!

Love my Stingrays, I can't seem to find any but the green these days. Your green has the later style crank sprocket that would have been on the '69 and later. What is the serial # on it and is the fork original? What is it's date code? Like @Jude Ephesus said they are awesome in any state. I have been slowly getting my '68 back to original one piece at a time. Between '68 and '69 they lengthened the chain stays to accomadate the bigger 46 tooth sprocket you have on yours. I do not believe that will fit on a true '68. You may have a '68 stamp date but that is most likely a '69. Chech the other codes on the crank, stem and forks. If it is a '69 I have that correct chainguard for sale if interested. I do have a shorter wingtip style in blue but it is from a Lil chik. I fell everyone should own a Stingray. Gald you gave in to the dark side @Jude Ephesus welcome to Schwinnvana

I'm a big Schwinn fan due to working in a Schwinn shops for 10+ years back in the day. I wasn't a huge fan back then though.... funny how that works.

Anywhos, being of Stingray age in the '60s I always wanted one but my bike was a Huffy Cheater Slick back then. A copy, but I still rode the heck out of it. Mom and dad weren't made of money and the Schwins were more expensive.

These days I'd like to have a Stingray just because, but I'm not willing to pay the asking prices for one. Instead I'm gravitaiting towards the "lightweight" 3 speeds, namely the the Racer and Speedster. I also wanted a Typhoon, but I finally literally found one of those (the frame anyway) and it's what led me down this rabbit hole and why I ended up on this site!

Well deal fell through for now anyway. My car has a coolant leak so I don't want to push it that far and the guy's starter went out so he can't deliver. If he still has it Friday I might see if my buddy wants to road trip up there.

I have gravitated to Schwinns just because that's what I find the most of and what normally sells the best. Since you worked for Schwinn back in the day you'd probably appreciate and recognize seeing this beauty. I found this one on local marketplace and offered the lady double her asking price if she'd deliver it and I was ecstatic to get it. My $200 1968 Schwinn Mini Twinn.

I buy them and put hub on standard rim. Another great reason to learn to build a tire.

So I found this "Schwinn Phantom" at the local antique store today. Listed for $295. I decided to ask if they'd negotiate and a phone call later I grilled the owner hard on the price and informed him it is neither a phantom nor a Schwinn for that matter. Looks to be either a Colson or CWC of some sort but I'm no expert on early stuff I just love the look and he said his absolute bottom dollar was $220 so I took it home. I think I did okay at that.

Saw this at the local antique store and decided I had to have it. Now what it is I'm not 100% sure but the antique store had it listed as a Schwinn Phantom which it is not. I'm thinking CWC or Colson from similar ones I've seen. Any help in IDing this bike would be a great help.

It has an electroforged bottom bracket with the stubs for the chain stays. Schwinn began doing EF bikes post war and with the rear facing dropouts, it likely is prewar.

I also believe CWC didn’t do the EF bottom bracket. Maybe Colson or Murray. Murray was doing this prewar, not sure whether Colson did.

I went into the antique shop downtown and found a killer cool bike but it is Not For Sale at the moment and he said IF he sold it it'd be above retail... said he'd price it at $1200 and come down to like $800... rare color... yada yada.. blah blah  . But I did get pictures for all of us to drool over.

Never thought I'd be looking back through my own old posts from 10 years ago and seeing bikes I couldn't think of affording at that time and now years later I own that same bike that I restored myself.

I have a Racer and everytime I bring it out someone tries to lowball me on an offer (as if I would sell it…)
