I want to dimple the chain stays. Open to suggestions. Willing to buy a new tool.

The way I dimpled chainstays in the past, was with a piece of iron pipe with an ID about the size of the stays cut longwise, a piece of 2" rod about half the size of the stays, and vice grips.

I've seen some welded to the grips since then, rather than.free.placed and squeezed.

I ordered a motorized kit last night. If it isn’t allowed in this build off I can save it for the big BO. Or I can mount it after BO is complete.

This is silly, but I am really hesitant to cut off the pulley for a 3 speed. I don’t need it, but I am also a big fan of the SA 3 speeds and it seems like a shame to chop this off.

Got the bendix kickback apart. Will send everything through the ultrasonic and then attempt to assemble with new grease.

If it were me, I'd would leave the bracket for the pully on the frame. Especially if putting a motor on, it could be a mount pount for a few different things related to that.

I don't think it'd hurt to leave that pulley or its bracket on there for now, especially if you're thinking about motorizing it later. Who knows, it could come in handy later. Besides, it's a klunker; it doesn't have to be perfect!

Hope the frame dimpling pays off! Those tires are going to look great on that Schwinn!

A while back a friend at the LBS contacted me about a vintage Raleigh that was in for refurbishing. He didn’t want to deal with the cottered cranks and goofy headset. Asked if I would do it and we made a deal for some store credit. Got these parts in exchange for doing something I enjoy. Pretty cool.

That's a real "you scratch my back, I scratch yours" kind of deal right there! Good deal!

I didn't get all of the assembly photos. Tore it back down after this and cleaned some of the grease out of the gears and teeth. This is too much grease. Good amount for the bearings.

The trick was to slide the brake side into the hub, and keep and spin the sprocket and hub together as they thread in unil its together. Multiple tries to figure this out.

By George!! I got it.

I used a little less grease than you. I took some videos to reference while taking it apart and I also used the Sutherland manual as reference.

There are no good YouTube videos for this. I think I got lucky. I did not make the special lock nut tool. That probably would have helped.

It seems to be functioning fine in the vise.
