Specil tool was pretty simple with a cutoff wheel. I have a yellow band tore apart and figured I'd use it again.

I fully intended to make one of those.

I decided to take it apart from the other side. I left the whacky lock-nut locked. It was definitely the wrong way to do it. Impossible to explain. Would have been easier with tool for sure.

Next time I will try to make a YouTube video.

Nice work on the hub. I'll try to remember this post when I need to rebuild one of these. Or I'll just hit up @metalchewy . This bike is going to be really cool. I'm loving the bars, forks and tires you chose for this. :cool2:

Getting ready to build some wheels. The last few times I have ordered stainless steel spokes they have not been shiny. What’s up with that? I like my spokes to pop. These are dull.

Stainless spokes aren’t normally shiny. Chrome or “UCP” will be shiny but steel. I carry Phil Wood SS spokes and can help you out for your next spoke and nipple order.

Hmm. I was buying very inexpensive spokes on Amazon for a while. Maybe those were the shinny ones. Got burned a couple times on the quality though, so no more bargain shopping for wheel parts.

I have bought spokes from you in the past and they were great. To be honest, I kind of forgot about that. I will contact you next time for sure.

Those tires compliment the frame really well. Hopefully you can make them work.
Agreed.

Would it be a bad idea to dimple both the seat stays and chain stays?

I also have a nice pair of 26 x 1.5 tires. They would fit well, but would totally change the look. Not as aggressive.

Progress.

I decided to get creative with what I could find laying around. I used a BMX style stem and a small piece of steel rod to squeeze in the dimples.

I am pleased with the results so far. I may need to make them a little longer and deeper. I also still need to do the seat stays.

I would love to have a dedicated tool for this, but this works.

That's what it's all about right there: creative problem-solving! Excellent use of making do with what you got!
