My birthday is December 12, 1945, so I just made it. Too old to be a baby boomer or a hippy.
Guess I’m a couple of months older then. Still don’t feel that old, bikes keep me active.
We just finished a bathroom remodel, so I’m ready to get back to work on some bikes. Ready for the build off.

They look like Worksman clincher rims. They come in 24” also from industrial trikes. I’ll bet ‘ind-chuckz’ can get them in steel or alloy, or direct purchase from Worksman. I’m running a mixed set of them (steel front/alloy rear) that I got from Chick a time long ago on my Toadmaster.

They're similar to Worksman, but supposedly wider. Same vendor also sells Worksman rims.

30 days from now...
and then 123 days after that...

It'll all be over 'cept the reckoning...

Merle.

How about trying a plywood circle and a ratcheting tie down or come-a-long for the bend? You could make the plywood circle with a top and bottom flange to keep it straight. Good luck, I want to see how it turns out.
Found an old brake disc that should be perfect, so all sorted.
Now I just have to not do it before May 1st... Which is hard when the steel is just sitting there and I am bored...

Anybody else starting to gather parts that they just can't wait to share? I'm pretty stoked about this rim set I just scored:

You're probably thinking the same thing I was the first time I saw a picture of them..."What's the big deal? Just a set of steel rims?"

"BIG" is the operative word here. I took a chance and ordered them from an online vendor based on one little bit of information. You can't really tell much from just a picture of them by themselves, but it becomes a little clearer once you get a little perspective:

The wheel on the left above is probably the biggest balloon tire wheel I already had. These things are monsters!

Here's another comparison shot, both wheels fit 26" tires.

The picture that sold me on them was one similar to this:

50 mm wide, compared to the ballooner's 38 mm width. That's about a half inch wider!

Did I mention they're STEEL?

I wish the seller had more. I've been looking all over for wide wheels that don't break the bank. Unfortunately they're pretty scarce in the US between 1.5" wide and 4". Especially in chrome or polished aluminum. The few to choose from cost an arm and a leg. Then there's Russia. Apparently Mother Russia is flush with wide rims, but the shipping time and cost makes it a questionable deal.

I don't know what these monsters were originally made for, My guess would be for pedicabs or vending/ice cream bikes. They're super heavy duty, and wide! Oh, did I mention less than $30 each? Shipping is still a lot, so I ended up paying around $80 for the pair, but that's less than half of what else is commonly available. They should look awesome with some 26"x3" tires on them, without looking like a fat bike. I wish the vendor had more, but I could only order 1 pair. Now their website shows they are out of stock. Oh well, at least I got something for the build off bike!
Those are awesome!

I have parts, but been trying really hard not to share pics...

I will share this one though:

11" wide Hoosier slicks...
One of these will be on my main build. :rockout:

Anything left on the Datsun build that can keep you occupied, Luke?

Some potential #14 parts...

After working on bikes with metric bolts all the time, it's kinda nice dipping into the SAE side of the socket set with the old Spaceliner. LOL
Got my wheels and tires lined up. Maybe the handlebars too. Whatever theme I settle on will help decide on the applied doodadery.

This RRB BO #14 will be the 5th year that I will be giving out the "OddJob Award for Most Rat-isfying Rust-ified Rat Rods" in the build off. The award is announced during the voting portion after the completion of the build-off in August.

I wonder how many of these former winners will be vying for another personalized 'Weird Oh' themed prize?

Hey @idiotboy , @G-Matt , @Rat Track , @Reallybigtim , @Dizzle Problems , @kingfish254 , @kirkpatrick , @MazdaFlyer , @The Renaissance Man , @Georgeediii , @Scribble , @Falstaff , @metalchewy , @Missing Link , @Vin-New , @macncheese ...... YOU IN?

The award is open to all builders, and is given to the bikes, which have a combination of real and faux-tina, and epitomize the rat rod bicycle in my own weird rat-ionalizations.

May the best rat(s) win!

Anybody interested in what a few of us have been doing for the last 31 days? Head over to the Competitions forum and check out the Unofficial March Shootout 2019 for our builds and banter, and if you're inspired stop in at the Unofficial March Shootout Voting. Besides bragging rights there's a "Rat Supreme" trophy to be awarded to the winner.

Good luck to everyone.

I won't be participating this year, to much life in the way.

So I picked up Andy's broken rat trap fork...
and I have the '53 Spitfire...
I did test fit to make sure they were compatible...
Now I just walk by them and look at the crustiness.
