Carl is exactly right, "If we can't use a bike we've previously wrenched on than we're all out."

As main moderator for this Build Off, and with the support of at least the above two ^ forum members, I say go for it @Funkme ! Since it is a chopped / modified frame and you will likely be doing more mods to it, you are likely a Class 2 entry. Post it up right now, you'll be the first thread in the Class 2 group!

Welcome, and ..... RaT oN~!

Go for it Miss Funk!!!!! Glad to hear that things are falling back into place with you. It's awesome to see you back in the build off!!!!!

I need obsolete tools to disassemble my 1890s bicycle. The pedal dust cap and the bottom bracket retaining bolt both use very large slotted screw heads. Apparently these old screwdrivers came in different thicknesses and widths to fit the application. They were hollow ground like gunsmith screwdrivers and came tapered or straight, tapered for recesses bolt heads. I can’t find anything like this so I’m going to buy a set of gasket scrapers and see if I can file them to fit. I’ll have to harden the tip if I can even get a homemade tip to fit. This dust cap is real stuck.

The last few years I have entered and never finished. With so much going on and losing my mojo. Again I am moving, but need to be out in a mth times...I invested in a campervan, and have a new location for my workshop(aka my old stables)(still need a floor and roofing) I have work and income this time,so a step up from last year. And all the parts.Time is the real thing... Poor Butterball Bandit is still sitting the way I left it last year.
So if it is allowed, I would like to re-enter Butterball Bandit. All it is is a chopped frame. Any objections?
I did the same thing. It was so many years before I re entered that I forgot I had started it as a previous build off bike. After I started again I found my old posts from my original failed attempt. I fessed up, but no one cared. Go for it. I actually started disassembling this years bike two weeks ago, so technically I started early, rules are loose for what you start with for good reason. It’s OK as far as I’m concerned. I may not enter the bike I’m considering, I may not be able to get the rust under control enough to take it apart in time.

After all of the support for allowing Funkme to use her partially started project, It started me thinking about my current build.

It was started at the first of this year so I had already resigned myself to sitting out the build-off earlier in this thread (post #21).

What are your thoughts about possibly entering this? The only work done so far has been to fit one of my tanks over the frame and rough cut a piece of aluminum to sandwich between it.

It's totally fine if anyone objects, as I wasn't planning to enter it from the start. I'll still be building it at some point and may not find much more time for it this summer anyway! -Jim

My personal opinion is that amount of pre-BO work is a bit outside of spirit of the old build offs. HOWEVER, with the extended 4 months we currently have, I'm not sure if it would be considered any unfair jumpstart. I also just looked back over Miss Funk work on the butterball bandit last year. There is a decent bit of fab work that was done there too that I forgot. BUT, the build offs have opened up a lot more in recent years, both in length of time allowed and what we can start with. I personnally prefer the more defined box to build within, but I also appreciate the more open platform that has evolved. Just my 2cents. I'm fine either way.

EDIT: One more point that I would like to add. A RatRodBikes Build Off with TRM and FunkMe in it, is way cooler than a build off without y'all!!!!

(partially started project) :21: I think I need to get a pic of what I have... I have not welded anything on,it's just a chopped frame(whats left of some) And a handful of chopped pipes(not even cut to correct lengths or shaped yet) RM that looks almost finished.:21:.... I think in the past you had to start with a frame or not(bits to build one). Above is a frame. So I don't see any issue. A lot of frames have been entered also in the past that were modifyed or repaired etc.

Slowly getting back on track. After breaking 2 ribs coming off the ebike last year, wait for it... I came off again, used my face as a landing pad, broke 2 fingers in 2 places each one. Jacket found it's way between the crate and jammed the front wheel. Instant brakes, one flying ole lady. Going down hill, doing 25km(lucky I was not going fast) So did not enter winter build off,due to healing. Fingers are a bit warped(limited use,but improving) So I really need to finish this bike, closer to the ground;)

Make some to fit. I often make/ or modify old tools etc.

Thanks for the honest comments y'all.

This was only a thought as of yesterday. It was never intended for the build-off so I'd rather sit it out than create any appearance of impropriety.

Who knows, with a four month window I may have to scratch the itch with another short build like I did last year.:)

Have fun!

Naw man, I say roll with it. Or wait for more feedback. Only two of us have chimed in so far. I was thinking out loud as I responded, and you can see by the end, I felt it was fine. What does everyone else think?

This sounds fine by me. Besides the prefabbed aluminum piece there has no real building happend, I would even consider this as a (somewhat refined) mockup.

I'd let TRM in even if he had a month's head start. It is worth it just to see what he comes up with. The extra time isn't going to make any difference to me, we're not in the same league. It's like the highschool b-ball team complaining because Michael Jordan and the Bulls got more warm up time.

We all know you are going to enter, either with this frame, or another you have tucked away... Let's see what you decide in the end. Lets get this comp rollin....

Haha, it does seem that way! I guess you know me better than I know myself.

Is there a 12 step program for build-offs anonymous?:21:

Funny you should say that. This is my 12th Build Off, so I guess I am completing the last step of the BOA program this year. :D
