I just got this rusty pile that will become my build off bike. It is solid despite it's patina look. Seat is in surprisingly good shape. It needs some love but I got some tricks up my sleeve.

Cool frame! :D Great build off material

My thoughts exactly. I'm really struggling with the decision to paint it or leave it alone and clear it. The patina is kinda growing on me and makes for an awesome ratty look. But with paint I could pull off a few special techniques and tricks to make it pop. Either way I have a few tricks up my sleeve that will make this bike really cool as well as some killer parts to throw at it but you'll have to wait for the build off to see that stuff. Can't give away all my secrets. (But if you look close at the pics you might see something that will make it on to the bike.)

I am trying to hold off of doing anything to this till the build off except tearing it down to it's components and getting it apart so it will be ready to build. So far I have had to chop the crank to get it off the frame because the peddles were rusted solid and the chain ring bolt was also seized on so it got the grinder too. The bearings, few bolts, chain ring, and pie plate were saved though. The seat post is stuck so I'll have to work on that later when I get to the store for more PB blaster. Also has a cool sleeve like thing around the seat post so a normal seat will fit on the shaft so that is a bonus and will come in handy on another bike I have.

Never will quit either. Just waiting for the build off to start building the coolest ride I have ever built.

I say paint it up that frame needs shine the lines are so cool make the frame design the center peice I did that with Ian's Eliminator

Seems like all your bikes that are rideable don't make it to the build off, so I think we will get to see this one get built this time!

Yeah I been really bummed every year, my first year I found the site right after the build off had ended so I got to see some cool bikes but didn't get to build one myself. The second build off I was too busy and didn't have time. The third I did build a bike but kinda ran out of parts, ideas, and motivation. I didn't plan it out like I should have and I used my frame swap and backed myself into a corner with "Rally Rat" and although I did finish it I didn't enter it. This year I will follow the 5 P's "Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance".

I have it planned out down to the last bolt, and I have planned out my time line with easily attainable goals for each week. I also went ahead and broke the bike down to bare frame so I won't be wasting valuable time fighting with stubborn stuck parts. :x I also organized my shed so I won't be wasting even more valuable time looking for that part I just had.  This year I got my game face on and it is going to be a fun build.

I can't wait to see what everybody comes up with especially with the addition of the anything goes category this year. I am playing it safe and sticking to the traditional build category as I don't have my welder anymore but I have some tricks up my sleeve so don't count me out.

Dude! you should put one of those huge (chainring) Schwinn exersize bike cranks on it!
That would be cool but I don't have one, I want to be able to ride it, want to be able to wheelie it, and dragsters are all about takeoff not top end speed.

DON'T YOU DARE TRY TO REMOVE THAT SEAT POST!

AMF bikes were notorious for having seat posts that were so tight fitting you would think they were welded in. I learned this one the hard way and ruined the frame. The AMF Flying Wedge is a very rare muscle bike, so please don't make this same mistake!

Too late: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=70260 (though he didn't break the frame)

Yep, already got it out without too much trouble. It's taken apart down to the frame and ready for the build off. How rare are these frames? Are they worth a lot or is it safe to modify and rat out considering it is missing 99% of it's original parts? Would cutting the dropouts deeper and trimming the steer tube effect the value? I want to make a killer rat rod out of it but if it would be like chopping an Elgin bluebird speak now or forever hold your peace.

8) 8) 8) Have you got your game plan I hope you go gasser Gas Monkey style can' wait to see her in all that sparkly paint she'll be smokin hot
