Did some more polishing tonight.
Got the cast headtube done.
Just after I took the above pic, the frame fell over and I got some shiny new dings on the headtube from the asphalt.
Oh well, I'll smooth them out a little on my final pass, but I'm not to worried. This frame has plenty of now polished scratches and nicks.

Pretty sweet improvement on the front of the frame.
How are you even typing? Your hands must be like vulture claws at this point, well worth it though, the frame looks awesome. All that tedium is paying off. Keep on rubbin' it's looking great.
I also painted a basic fender dart on my scrap test fender to get a feel for color.

If he's not wearin' gloves his fingers are probably black but I'll bet he's havin' a ball. That looks like some fun polishing. Coming out sweet!
Triple dart on the triple duck?
Someone asked what my process has been for the cleaning / polishing. Nothing fancy, but here it is.
To start with I had to get the crud off. I'm not sure if it was an old varnish or some scaly corrosion. I had to go over all of the cast pieces inch by inch and scrape it all off. I did this with a dull 5in1 and a small utility knife.
I just made up the rest of the process based on what was close at hand.
First pass, cover area with a little rubbing compound. Start with 1000 grit wetsand using simple green sprayed on as the "wet" part. Cleaning it off every now and then, Then continuing with simple green wet sanding until I feel like I am down to a polishable level on the aluminum. I did this using small 1/2x2" strips of 100 grit sandpaper and my fingers.
Followed by red buff wheel on a drill, Applying red buffing compound block to padding now and then.
Followed by putting some MAAS polishing creme on the frame and using the buffing wheel on a drill again.
Followed by the MAAS again and a hand polish with a rag.
That's all I have done so far. I'll probably follow later with a buffing wheel and the white compound block and some more MAAS (both with the wheel and by hand)

The casting surface on those spaces is much rougher than the rest of the bike. I don't believe they were ever polished.
Plus, since I am using the Mooneyes, those areas won't be seen.
Gotcha! You can actually see that they are like that.

So, knowing bare aluminum's propensity to 'gray over' or oxidize, how do you plan to keep / preserve the shine on the tubes / lugs?
Haven't decided on that yet. I was thinking of clear coating it, but I really hate to do that. I saw some stuff called ShineSeal, but it is freaking $60 for 4oz!!!!!!! I'll probably just wax it. Not sure how well that will hold up to our brutal humidity though.
