Small and probably final update on this one.
Sometimes I can’t get my ‘almost’ daily rides in until dusk, I needed to add some ‘be seen’ lighting. I wanted to keep it minimal, water ‘resistant’ and of course.....cheap.
Grabbed these rubber LED units off eBay for $5 a piece.

A blue one to match the paint, it fit perfectly on the double mount stem

And a red one for the rear (the green band is off my blood pressure med bottle, a reminder of one of the reasons I’m trying to ride every day)

They have 3 modes, solid on, quick flash and slow flash, I do believe they will work out just fine.

Lighting is always good, just not always small.

So, I was messing around with the flashing mode on my new lights and my daughter noted that the flashing red and blue lights would probably freak out some ‘party people ‘ at the beach.....hahaha looking forward to meeting some!

BIG progress today!
Finally got decent enough weather to finish up the paint/clear.
After 2 coats of color and 4 coats of matte/‘dead flat’ clear (wet sanded between each coat).
The paint turned out just the way I’d hoped. The matte will look good with the glossy decals that will go on next.
I was able to get everything assembled and to a rider.

It rides really nice (can’t figure out how to add a video via Tapatalk).

I’ll call it ‘done’ when the decals come in.

I’d like to thank a few people that helped make this come together.
@ind-chuckz for the frame and tires [emoji1360]
@Smoopy’s for the headbadge [emoji1363]
@kingfish254 for the wheels [emoji1365]
@kingfish254 and @OddJob for the ‘counseling’
@Rat Rod for starting the strandie page that made me say ‘I want one of those!’

For now, I’m gonna go ride my new bike!

Cheers all!
Dr. T (Rob)

Like the flat/Matt blue paint.

Great bike! Any tips on finding a stem like you used?

I have a pair of double knurled bars picked up at a swap, maybe motorcycle or moped? is there a standard spacing? Thanks Dr. T

Hey bud, I got mine off of eBay YEARS ago (like 10 years). I believe it was sold under the brand ‘Dorcy’ which was an inexpensive line of BMX parts from the late 70s - early 80s sold in major department stores like KMart and such. Somehow, they’ve become a little pricey.
Here’s a black one on eBay right now.

Thanks! Yes they are pricey. Something to hunt for at swaps! Like it better than the aluminum cast ACS type.

seems some Dorcy's are cheaper built stampings...

About 2 months ago, I moved to Savannah GA and I’m now able ride this bike every day (life and weather permitting).
I quickly noticed that the 40psi knobbies had too wide a contact patch and were rather loud (mostly asphalt side streets).

Decided to upgrade them to these 26x2.4 S&M Speedballs. They are AWESOME! Super quiet and can go up to 110psi. I’m initially going with 60psi, so far they feel good. While I was at it, I installed a set of Thompson’s bottle grips in brick red.

The wet area shows how narrow the contact patch is, just the center treads

Grips are much improved and match the seat ‘enough’

Excellent updates to an already cool bike!
Look forward to cruising with you now that you are in God's Country. :D

Dr T, that's "T" as in sTrandie! Nice build! I'm a big fan of Ian's grips as well. Look forward to checking out Schwummit in person!
