If you want to save weight you can use the finished wooden tank as a form for a fiberglass mold.

Thanks. The wood isn't that heavy now the planks in the middle have holes in them. Cheers for the tip on the fiberglass mold though. Good idea.

Been filling In the gaps between the planks today and been trying to get all the wood level. It will need a good sand down once it's dry though.I need to pick up some sanding pads, hopefully get them tonorrow.

Nice tank--just be sure that wacky bunny with the chainsaw stays away from it.

:D

The tank is coming along nicely. I gave it a really good sand with the sander to try and get all the planks even and straight.

Little check to make sure it fits good.I have to allow for the layers of paint, so I have left a little movement all around.

Then it was time for some filler to cover up the plank lines, followed by more sanding.

I have been sanding down again this morning.Once I had it straight even and got rid to the lines. I put on two coats of the texture.

Once that's fully dry, the grey can go on. It's getting there, it just took a while to get it all sanded straight.

Man your tank is turning out sharp? How much does it weigh?

Thanks. I'm not sure, I Still need to get a couple more layers of paint on yet, so I'll weigh it after to see. It doesn't feel too heavy though, well no more than a metal tank would, full of gas. :)

Char, you nailed it on the tank fitting perfectly dude. Awesome job.

Thanks for the nice comment man.Very kind of you.

I got another coat of the textured paint on the tank today. It needed a little more to make it look rougher. Grey should be going on real soon.

It's had another coat of grey since the last photo. Once that's all dry, I can start on the stain, dry brushing and dirtying it up.

It's having a Fairbank Flyer logo too :) More on that soon.

Re: ====~THE FAIRBANK FLYER~====

Been a busy few days painting the tank. It's taken a while to try and get the look of the rust effect just right. I'm quite happy with how it's looking so far. Once all the tank logo goes on, more dry brushing can be added. Here are a few pictures from painting on the stain and dry brushing.
