Hi MazdaFlyer,

I recognize your dilemma, as some have already mentioned rake angle.
See you posted images of joints? Perhaps you can in some fashion make the fork static and run a shaft through the fork's steering tube to connect with a rod at one end and your steering wheel at the other.

Searching for parts I stumbled upon an example you and others my find of use.
Ackermann steering geometry.

Thanks! I’m going to still bull my way through my original pivot point idea just to document that it sorta works or doesn’t work at all for all to see. The Ackerman steering fork setup would detract from the visual effect that I want to achieve. The Ackerman concept should work with the spindle/knuckle piece I have on the way. Crazy as it sounds I’m going to start on a cardboard mock-up to figure that out. Kinda of a measure twice cut once procedure.

A few years back I bought this (eyup, still sits in my garage waiting for it's turn). The front "suspension" is a simmilar design as in a tractor (the front axle pivots in the centre). Since it's a 1-1 turning ratio on the steering wheel I was planning to use this:
c9955e55453ba7144fe6131523d3

It's a steering gear used in Trabant car. And since I had a box of them it was a natural choice :21:

My best idea to make a front suspension the easy way would be in this matter - a car steering gear & a tractor-like suspension.

Hope it kinda helps :cool2:
Thanks! I had to look up what a Trabrant car was. As I said in this post things are evolving. Still have a couple of procedures to work through. Still stuck on the front pivot idea used by tractors of old.

All this engineering is hurting my head :D
Keep plugging away, there is plenty of time.

are they 5/8ths? will a trike hallow hub work>?

Yes they are 5/8”, only one I found that is 5/8”. Most they I saw available are 0.669” or 17mm. Think I’ll need to add spacers because of their length and hub width.

Ed, this is really cool! As previously mentioned, I would go with as beefy and 'knobby' a tire as you can find. Something that screams "TRACTOR"!
T-RacT-or oN~!

Innova makes these 26x2.5 tires. Have one of those on my electric with a 80mm Fatbike rim. It looks like a 50's motorcycle tire.

Cleaned up burrs on the angle pieces and drilled some holes.

And test fit some parts...and created a problem that showed up when fitting the bracket to the bike.

The initial concept is together and mounted. It didn’t seem like the pivot was working then I noticed the interference issue.

Notice the two long bolts that hit the axle...fixable but I put my tools away and left it for another day.

Need to add a couple of lawyer washers also if this works and a rear drop stand.

If you flip the fork bolts around so that the threads are to the left and right, then you can flip the bottom bolts so that the threads go up rather than down. That should take care of your clearance Clarence.

Those do look more aggressive, I have a 2.125 knobby on the back now. I don’t think I have clearance for 2.500.

Whatever style maybe use smaller fronts such as these trailer wheels?
hamax-outback-500x250.png
Maybe I need adult outrigger wheels on the back. I had looked at doing 20” on the front.

Man, so close! I would not have been able to stop for the day! lol
Good luck tomorrow. :)
Yah thought about it but I was spent. Seemed like all the drill bits of the right size were spent also. It took forever to get the holes drilled. I had to make a masked HD run for a 5/8” bit. Hard to believe how many vehicles were in the parking lot. They were counting people in and out. The inside didn’t really seem crowded. Very few folks wearing masks or observing social distancing.

Yes that should solve the binding. I placed them thinking the current positioning was the cleaner look. What looks good isn’t alway the best solution, form follows function.

You can always clean it up once you work out the engineering kinks. That is what I did when I was working on the rear suspension of Flexy years ago.

Masked travel for groceries, post office, pet food run, then mowing and yard work today. I haven’t been back out to the garage so far, so no progress other than mental design work.
No comments about my build title as of yet, WAHA-SEDB-3. So here’s the story, Wards Hawthorne Bike and Sears David Bradley Hood with 3 Wheels are the major components. The “WAHA-SEDB-3” reads somewhat like a Kona or Gary Fisher bike model but really no connection other than having both brands in the family at-onetime.
Ran across this tire, thinking it’s the same one SpikeFC posted, only to see they are out of stock. it might work on the rear.

The real prize for tires would be the Tioga Farmer John, a vintage mtb tire from the late '80s / early '90s made famous by world champion rider John Tomac.
I had these on my first Diamond Back bike. The big lugs rolled pretty good on the hard pack, but were too firm for muddy conditions. They did look like tractor treads, though.

Thanks, do you still have them? If so they’ve possibly appreciated in value.
Nice tread...looked on eBay, there is one NOS “Tioga Farmer John’s Nephew” tire for $99. It is 1.195” in width, too narrow. Funny stuff, the whole rust-bucket bike originally cost $30. Can you say money pit?
