Re: thatismytruck vs. ifitsfreeitsforme

That's a tough decision, Ian  The fenders look real cool with the Franks tucked in them, but they look cool without them as well  If I had to vote, I would choose the fenders though :p

Skip, nice parts! :D I like the safety reflector

Re: thatismytruck vs. ifitsfreeitsforme

Hard to believe you got that for $99. That rack is epic.

I think I'm all set for parts, but thank you.

Re: thatismytruck vs. ifitsfreeitsforme

Worked on other stuff this weekend, but did take the time to pull apart the seat.

the copper is peeking through from the plating process. On the right, the Spaceliner (higgins) crank has no copper showing. 15 year difference (give or take) in manufacture date. pretty big difference in process. I love the copper look. kinda tiger stripe looking.

I used to work in a plating shop back in the day, running a nickel handline. In layman's terms I did the whole process of chrome plating from cleaning to copper/nickel/chrome by hand. Copper plating is by far one of my favorite finishes on machine work. Too bad it's so darn soft. Sorry about hijacking the thread....

Carry on with the goodness that is the buildoff. 8)

No worries.

Got any Spaceliner stuff? I want one of the finned chain guards for another build.

Re: thatismytruck vs. ifitsfreeitsforme

I'm thinking about lowering the rack over the rear fender with a cutout if I can. Sort of like the RRB auction bike, but with a fender.

Crude sketch of idea:

Ian,
I like where you are going with this build. I pick up my Monark on Friday and will start on it next week.

Not hijacking your post, but I am going to use this wheelset on it.

The only pieces I have are a super nice sprocket with the hub cap. I also have a rear rack (no light box or reflector though. If you need that stuff LMK.

Ok, I did it. I cut up a perfect 1955 Monark rack.

I like the look:

SUH WEET! I'm wanting to do that too... it's just that everything for me has been long term in the project department. Ugh. I'm liking it, a lot. The wife has returned with more popcorn. Forge ahead.

You are really stepping up, little buddy. I now need to pull out another stop.

Re: thatismytruck vs. ifitsfreeitsforme

One half of my tank is rotted through. So I'm thinking of turning the hole into a faux air intake.

Remove rust:

Start shaping perforated metal:

Now how to hold it in place is the question:
