    Help with ID of frame

The frame is indeed built by HP Snyder; 1941 would be my guess. Snyder did provide frames to Montgomery Ward, so the Hawthorne badge is likely correct. The numbers you posted are actually not the manufacturers serial number, they were stamped afterward. Maybe it was a bicycle at an auto...

Did I turn down a good bike?

Any old Schwinn is a good Schwinn and those are definitely unique compared to your everyday middleweights. 75$ is about where I would have backed out too unless I was on a mission to get one. We all have ghosts of the one that got away, but this isn't one to lose sleep over.

    Grease is the word

I swear by some red Valvoline all purpose automotive stuff. It's the perfect weight and tackiness for everything on a bicycle. I think this particular packaging is discontinued but you get the idea: http://www.sanon-valvoline.com.hk/product.php?Id=86

    Schwinn-original parts???

I saw this one too. Definitely a repaint with replaced parts that B6 mentioned. It's a solid bike but not worth what he's asking.

    Schwinn Tank Bike... Reproduction?

The frame is definitely a modern frame (90s or newer). Taiwan I believe. Looks like it's mostly a Cruiser Classic. The guard was used by Schwinn on some bikes through the 70s and 80s. The decals on it are just random Schwinn decals. I'm not sure on the tank; it doesn't look like it fits great up...

24 inch schwinn american girls whats a good offer?

I'd move on. Unless you got it for like 20$, it would be a hard sell for the reasons you listed, and not much room for making money.

What did I just buy?? Serial added

Nice find; I'd put the frame around the early-mid 20s. It would have been a 28" wood wheel bicycle originally but somebody later put 26" clincher wheels on it as well as a later 26" Schwinn or Higgins fork. Crank arms appear original, bars likely original, stem may be a few years later. Seat is...

    Bike Swap Scores (for once)

Ladies wingbars are better looking than mens wingbars

    CWC??? Ladies bike

There is not! They repeated serials several times in quick succession so it's partially dependent upon the frame and other features coupled with the serial. I was a silent understudy of RMS37 and read everything he ever typed on the company. One of the last prewar prefixes I'm familiar with is I...

    CWC??? Ladies bike

Indeed CWC; considering the parts and serial, I say 1947 Western Flyer badged originally.

    Colson Snap Tank Frame...Forks??

Tube lengths vary greatly over the years/styles, especially on prewar bikes. You can get some early 30s motobikes with under a 5" steer tube while some ladies bikes will be up around 8". Prewar girls bikes will have longer steer tubes than mens. After the war, they were typically the same...

    Unknown Tandem

Oh man, that's the saddest of things. The back was a rare Huffman Super Streamline, 1937-38ish. The front half looks like just some diamond frame that had the middle tube added. Front forks are a CWC "Flying V" circa '35-37. Colson front ring. Rear looks like a Rollfast chainring. I weep for...

Detroit's Belle Isle FreakBike Nation Ride and Picnic

Looking forward to it! I won't be riding freaky but I think original crusty ballooners will be welcomed.

wierd colson rear steer tandem frame

That is weird! I've seen a lot of these second generation Colson tandems but never with that brace. It does look like somebody knew what they were doing, but I'm going to say this was done after the fact. The main thing that sticks out to me is where the bottom of the tube meets on the downtube...

    Help ID this vintage find...

He's not too far off. CWC sold to AMF around 1954 and AMF swallowed the parent company, taking over operations completely by the late 50s. This appears to be all AMF circa 1959-61ish.

    Tank bike I.D.?

That would be a 1939 or early '40 Murray built. With that chainguard, I'd agree with ALW that it was badged Mercury. Essentially the same as the '39 Elgin in my avatar.

    Need help I.d. this tank

It is indeed a hanging tank. The differences you've seen are that both HP Snyder and CWC produced the fastback frames that used this style tank. They're very similar but do not fit between the different manufacturers. I believe the CWC version had the vertical slits and the Snyder tank had the...

Looks like an L serial which would suggest 1947.

    Help with bike ID needed.

This is definitely Huffy built, and with the parts it has, likely was an Eldorado. Probably mid-late 60s but the serial number should be H###### and the first number after the H will be the last number of the year. So if you've got H8, this would be a '68. Most middleweights can't fit bigger...
