    Flying Burrito Brothers

Cold, 40 degrees is cold? It was 7 degrees here last evening by 6 PM and I saw some kid riding a Giant Stiletto down snow covered sidewalks. Granted the Stiletto needs to be chopped, but come on, 40 is not cold. Enough meteorilogcal tomfoolery. THOSE BIKES ROCK! Nice work.

Axle Size VS Fork Dropout Size

Randy, They make some neat little spacers that slide over the end of the axles to make it fit snug. Someone at your LBS must have some lying around. 62H

    SIDE CAR!!

There are a number of interesting sidecars at this link: http://translate.google.com/translate?u ... en&ie=UTF8 I do not believe it is in the content of the link I posted, but there was a post on one of the forums I read about making a vintage looking side car body from a barrel . These...

    First Attempt

That is a great looking bike. I too love the black rim/blackwall tire combo. Any comments on the fork you used? Most of what I have heard about them has been negative (about the function of it), but I love the looks of them. If I could change one thing it would not be on the bike, but the...

    Mrs. Goodwrench

I have not done any more work on this project and will not be able to in the near future. I will finish it eventually, but not for the BBO. Mrs. Goodwrench gets a DNF.

    Howdy Ya'll From TEXAS!!!!

OGB Welcome. I am mostly a computer idiot and have found it very easy to post pics by using a PhotoBucket account. Set that up and then just copy and paste the "IMG" code into your post. It's so easy I even figured out hoe to do it with a video! It's almost like an old Geico Commercial...

    New here...

Welcome. Very nice bikes. I think you made the Electra look as old as the Schwinn. If you continue to do work of this quality, you may need to modify your screen name. The stencil job on the '57 (and the overall build quality of the Electra) belies the "No Talent" moniker. 62H

    Big Truck/ Bike Concept

I love it. Have you considered a trailer to go with it? I was thinking to make it handle better (keep the center of gravity lower) move the fifth wheel down low behind the rear wheel (stinger steered position) and have a set up like the car transporters use. Then you could haul a...

    Bendix Coaster Hubs

Cashman, Thanks for the info. I am going to try and clean up what few I have and post pics of them soon to see what is worth saving/working with. 62H

rat rods for middle school kids....

I like the idea a lot. What about stockpiling bikes and having the kids strip them down and organizing the parts. Once a good inventory is on hand staart mixing and matching parts to build something different. I think teaching them how to clean, repack and adjust bearings in hubs...

    Bendix Coaster Hubs

Can anyone list the differences in the Bendix hubs that we may come across? In my collection o'stuff I have some marked 70, 76 Mexico and a red band "automatic. I realize that the older (colored stripe versions) are more desirable/durable, but what about the later one's with the 70...

    $60 Steal

CtB, What size wheels are on the blue womens Schwinn? I think I have the same bike, mine has 24" wheels. The headbadge on mine is different and from what I could make out of the serial number, mine is a '52. 62H

    Subtle changes

How about one of the black walled Electra tires with the red stripe? I think Retro Runner is one model. Bontrager Hanks also come in that style, they were stock on the Trek Rail.

    3 speed Nexus question

Thanks RRD, that's the kind of info I was looking for. :D

If it costs too much, build your own

"Hey, where do I go to join the Freakbike Militia?" It's as easy as a trip to: http://www.freakbikenation.net ! A pilgrimage to Oakville, Ontario for Halloween is a good idea too.

    Mrs. Goodwrench

Those things are like fake fork seals and the tubing diameter changes right there, so yeah, I'm stuck. They make the same fork with shorter legs, but I was trying not to spend any more money on parts... The jury is still out.

RAT ROD BIKES BUILD OFF 2 DISCUSSION

Well, since the rules discussion came up.... I don't really have a rules specific comment, but I feel like the bike I am building does not qualify as a rat. By the time it is done it will have shiny new paint on the frame and fork, wheels and tires with about 1 mile on them before the build...

    Mrs. Goodwrench

Here is the bike with the chopper fork: And here it is with the standard fork: Popular opinion in the household here is not in favor of the standard fork. I think I would like the chopper fork better if the legs were shorter and I could get the front end down where I want...

    Mrs. Goodwrench

Sensor, I do have one, even have an additional steer tube long enough somewhere...but it just is not the look I have in mind. I am trying to stay away from chrome for one thing, part of why I am not liking the chopper fork I had mounted. I think this standard rigid fork is growing on me.

    3 speed Nexus question

I am looking for some gearing recommendations. The Mrs. Goodwrench BBO bike will have a 3 speed Nexus on it, what are any of you running for a front chainring? I have a 39T I was thinking of using (because of the desing of it), but want to know what it may be geared like using that instead...
