Hey all I'm not that great at understanding the specifics in sizing of old and vintage bike parts so I'm stuck here.
I want to put a Brooks Flyer on my 72' Collegiate and I think I need a new seat post to do so? But if I recall the Collegiate posts are smaller than today's standard. What do I...
Can It be done?!?
I have Kenda s6 tires that are supposedly for the S6 rims on my 73 Collegiate but I've never for the life of me been able to get them to sit properly! I always end up with a "flat spot" where the bed sits inside the rim, like the tire is too small. Sometimes it's so flat I...
Woooow I'm jealous my chain guard doesn't look that nice!
Where'd you get the tires and what size are they? I specifically ordered some that were supposed to be for s6 rims but don't fit!
Yeah that's about all I found too. Got it for 7 bucks at a big garage sale. Lucked out that that it works fine! I'm just trying to make sure I'm not rollin around with something too valuable. I've seen those Archer Road Patrols go for such a pretty penny I wouldn't want to be sitting on an...
Sunshine Waterloo has just about got to be the best bike brand/model name I've ever heard. It just makes me smile thinking about it. Got a real cool sprocket too! Hope you've got some awesome plans for it.
Thanks! See the fenders?
It's a swiss army ammunition bag. While hunting around for a good army surplus bag i simultaneously found this and this. Had to take the cheeper route there. heh
Thanks! I think I'll try it out tomorrow. I'm a bit worried about how fast they'll...
Try hunting around big garage sales and flea markets too. I just picked up this cool old lafayette am/fm a few weeks ago. Works fine, headphone jack, wrist strap and slides of the mount. Getting a little external antenna from radio shack tomorrow.
Hahaha! The rear wheel's a little crooked or something, so the little fringies on the new tire brush the fender and it sounds like a quiet little cricket. She seems to have chosen her own name.
But maybe she'll need a new one after more breaking in.
Haha No she kind of is a rat rod. And I mean no offense fellow rat rod lovers.
Anyways I finished restoring/modding the heck out of my 1973 Schwinn Collegiate. Well for the time being, there's always work do be done and I am certainly no professional bike mechanic.
She was saved from a barn...
Haha man I should have posted this ages ago but there was some trouble with the fender stays. The hercules fenders fit fine but the ones i got had to short of a stay on the front fender. Had to get crafty and it's good to go now.
Definitely gives it an English flair. :D
Thanks guys! I ended up flipping the post. The saddle still twists if I knock it too hard, but I've probably ridden close to 30 miles on it now and it doesn't make me uncomfortable or potentially cause a problem, so I should be fine for the time being.
I'm a bit confused by how to take the clamp...
I tried to do a search for this but I came up with nothing.
I want a brown saddle for my 73 Schwinn Collegiate but the seat post is causing me issues, the end tappers so it's far to thin for a new saddle there and I don't think recovering/cutting new foam will really make it more comfortable.
I...
Oh forgot something!
My hopeful paintover for what the bike may look like. I want to leave the green frame and accent it with brown and cream. Can't paint the rims, unfortunately. Caliper breaks ruin everything. Might paint sidewalls instead?
But I did figure out the secrets (including where...
Finally starting my build journal even though I've been working on this bike for more than two weeks.
Before starting this build all I knew about bikes was how to ride them well and adjust the seat.
Lets just say I'm learning a LOT.
The target: A 1973 5-speed Schwinn Collegiate I saved from a...
