The pinched loaf tins gave me a good enough idea on changing the scale of the valve covers. I'm currently going over a bunch of my roadster inspiration pics and looking at the engines in more detail. While the simple even cuts that I made to the spare tin worked for a scale mockup, I think I see a better way to slice the main loafers to integrate better with the engine "block" and emulate not only the valve covers, but also partially emulate the valve heads. Also even though I like the curved exit of the top of the pipes, I think I am going to slice the valve head section of the tins to mesh with the upper section of the pipes so that the pipes appear to come out of the heads rather than the engine block. We'll see if what is working in my head works on the tins and such later. Thanks for the always welcome feedback, it keeps my mind and hands working through this fun stuff.
I think I am ready to work in some other medium than foil tape!!! :D :D :D

Circling back to the flathead V8 discussion we had much earlier in this thread, I may even try to find something to emulate the finned flathead covers.

You don’t need the fins so much as spark plugs in the valve covers to emulate a hemi head !

Yeah, but the fins are cooler. And a flathead would fit the roadster vibe better than a hemi..

After looking at various heatsink material, I'm sure I could come up with some approximation of a flathead cover, but I don't think I would be happy with it. I don't want to go down a rabbit hole of trying to make this too exact. I just want to make it a cool mimic of a hot rod engine. Like something I used to draw in school trying to copy the Odd Rods cards or CarToons magazine pics.

Looks like 11 years ago I was working on fake pipes and such as well in BO7.

That heatsink idea is beyond clever! I was thinking something along the lines of a ribbed rubber floor mat, which would be a lot easier to source and work with...not to mention cheap. I have one here I keep my wet shoes on that, apart from being black, looks just like those fins.

I can't remember who, but somebody made a tank out of finned aluminum last year, and it was AWESOME!! Very hotrod...

Cool thinking with the rubber mat. The pattern could be about the right scale too. There is only a 5x2.5 area to work with on top of the covers.

Lol I knew I liked it, I gave @kram the inaugural Good From Afar award for it.

It is an aluminum battery cover, see more here:

Yes, @kram killed it with that ribbed aluminum tankage. I would love to find some of that to keep on hand.

My only worry with making the tins smaller is that it will be a half baked idea.

Cutting and tweaking this half baked idea.

Haha! I was so busy laughing at your pun earlier that I forgot to respond! I like the headers in the lower position too despite the fact that the higher position gives it more of the gasser look. I was cool with the tall valve covers but I think @BobbyStillz idea to shorten them was really good. I really like your idea to trim the valve covers to fit around the headers to make them feel more like part of the head, like on an OHV motor. If you go with the finned flathead idea, which I love, then having the headers stick straight out of the block would be good too. Looking good! Are you planning a paint scheme?

Got the bends in to make the valve covers and heads more clear.

Made some rough cuts for the pipes.
Quick mockup before I head out to show an apartment.

Very, very nice old Fold.

It's probably about the same age as me, that's how I know it's old!
i had one in the 8os but a 4 door 3 on the tree 6 banger i traded a 289 hipo manifold for a NOS kit slapped it on there just ran the copper line straight to the carb with a toggle switch hahahah got drunk one weekend with a buddy cruising the streets of Winnipeg and this trans am pulls up beside us he look over and i gave him the finger and it was on i dumped the clutch 1st then 2nd then 3rd and then i told my buddy to hit the switch slapped back into 2nd there was this massive boost of power and then BOOOOOOM I ROLLLED to the curb behind me was a oil slick with crank parts littering the street we got out and the dude in the trans am pulled up and laughed
it was about ten years later i met the same guy his name was roger and ran a speed shop in transcona he told me he tells that story every time some comes in and want NOS on there car hahahaha i ended up driveing his wrecker for him we became good friends lost touch with him over the years
