Grace Potter is fantastic.....

Just finished watching her set. I agree. I will definitely be searching out her musix on swpacd.
Great band backing her up too! They actually had the balls to cover ZZ Top's Tush. Now they didn't quite have the Gibbons guitar chops, but they rocked it most excellently.!!!!

Had to come back in the fill my "water bottle". The park is only 4 blocks from my house.

Re: FlexLiner 7 - TwinFlex Spaceliner 6/1 Merry Junemas HO HO HO

Wonder if my friend Jason was there tonight...

Re: FlexLiner 7 - TwinFlex Spaceliner 6/1 Merry Junemas HO HO HO

He might have been. Haven't heard from him in a while.

Okay this isn't as cool as Steve's Jimmie Vaughan concert, but he wasn't able to ride his bike around the concert event and let fans take photos with his bike. How do you like the size appropriate fish bobber cooler? I may need to get one of these for Fugsley. Great music and a really fun time!!! More photos in my Fugsley thread (viewtopic.php?f=21&t=44315)

Re: FlexLiner 7 - TwinFlex Spaceliner 6/1 Merry Junemas HO HO HO

Congrats on your Christmas day! How did you manage a Park work stand for 40$? Nice find!

Re: FlexLiner 7 - TwinFlex Spaceliner 6/1 Merry Junemas HO HO HO

Merry Junemas to to you!

Glad to hear your parts are in, now GTB on your new Park stand, right?

BTW, is that the world's largest fishing 'bobber' on the back of Fugsley?

Have an awesome weekend!

Cheers,
Dr. T

Love the bobber cooler. Jason graduated yesterday and had to work during the concert. Oh wells. Good to see the old girl back on the road, grips and all.

Well, the Park is a lot bigger than my Wrencforce stand and my shop is kinda tight. I will probably keep the Park over at my bike stash and continue to use the Wrenchforce until I wear it out.

Re: FlexLiner 7 - TwinFlex Spaceliner 6/2 Im Flexy and I Know It

Made good progress today. I will post some of the detail photos afterwards, but her she is in all of her Flex Appeal (almost).

I don't know what you spent building Fugsley, but you probably already got paid back about 10 fold in fun.

That rear suspension on the Flexliner is looking pretty dang cool.

And it looks like you might have more cans of spray paint than Lowe's.

Most everything on Fugsley is from yardsales or craigslist. I doubt I have more than $100 in it. You are right of the fun part!!!!

I am pretty pleased with the rear suspension progress. Some some engineering to overcome, but I am getting there.

I would say 90% of that paint is from yardsales for between 10 cents and an buck.

The only thing cooler than all the tubes on a Spaceliner, is more tubes :D
Your rear suspension is look really cool!

Re: FlexLiner 7 - TwinFlex Spaceliner 6/2 Im Flexy and I Know It

What are your thoughts on chain tension?

I'll probably have to use a chain tensioner, even though the TwinFlex's don't have one. We'll see.

I am trying to make the lines of the rear follow the lines of the bottom top tubes.

Thanks!

Re: FlexLiner 7 - TwinFlex Spaceliner 6/2 Im Flexy and I Know It

Okay here is the pic heavy detail update.

Went over to my dad's for some stainless to fab the springer bolt bracket and while looking around at some of my other stuff, I noticed the holes in the rear supports from one of the Coppertone Schwinn Exerciser's that I parted out. These have pretty big tubes so I figured I might even skin the rear MeteorFlite tubes with these legs.

Got back home and started laying out the holes with my Harbor Freight Drill Press

WP_001677.jpg

After cutting 4 holes in hardened steel, the HF disposable drill bit the dust. I usually get these for $10-20, but after this burnout, I went down to Home Depot and picked up a $60 DeWalt.

Here is the first fab with the main pivot done.

WP_001679.jpg

It wasn't a total surprise to me that the single pivot didn't provide the proper travel for the springer. So I sliced the seat stays off and drilled for the upper pivot. The second pivot is key to providing the proper travel of the seatstays into the springer.

Test fit the Nexus 7. The current frame width is going to work fine.
WP_001687.jpg

I had been thinking I would have to secure the coaster arm to the seat stays, but that is impossible now with the upper pivot. In this picture, I was getting a feel for what I would need to do to extend a brace off the back.
WP_001688.jpg

But now that I revisited the photo I took of the LBS TwinFlex, I can see that they just extended a bracket down from the main pivot bolt to act as a coaster brace.

The last part is attaching the upper seat stays to the springer U-Arm. I decided against using a long length of the Exerciser legs because it just wouldn't flow with the sizing of the Spaceliner tubes.

I plan to insert the top of the MeteorFlite stays into the Exerciser tube and welding it in place. I had planned on Exerciser part to be on the inside of the springer U arm, but this would possibly narrow the wheel clearance too much if I ever decided to roll with the Thick Bricks. I noticed that the bolt holes for the Exerciser had a gap between them, so I took advantage of this and sliced them so that the U-Arm ends will slide into this slot.

I might have to drill out the round end of the Exerciser part to accept the MeteorFlite, because it has a double wall in this one area.

I have a lot of dressing up to do of the cuts of course, but it fabbed together pretty well for one days work if you ask me. I am very pleased.

Re: FlexLiner 7 - TwinFlex Spaceliner 6/2 Im Flexy and I Know It

One unknown is going to be how stable or wobbly the back end will be. Like the TwinFlex, I have a fair length of surface to surface contact between the SpaceLiner drops and the Pivot drops. This should hellp discourage lateral movement of the rear end.

There isn't a great deal of surface to surface contact on the upper pivot, but it is about the same as the TwinFlex.

This is uncharted territory, so we know until we know. Just like the chain tension issue. The TwinFlex doesn't have any sort of tensioner. Maybe it is because of the small amount of travel and the direction of the travel. I don't know how my design will react. If I need to, I will easily add a chain tensioner.

Now I need to do a little more fab work and line up my welding buddy.
