Re: FlexLiner 7 - TwinFlex Spaceliner 6/2 Im Flexy and I Know It

I may not go with the stainless angle bracket for the spring bolt bracket. It looks like it is kind of difficult to weld stainless to carbon steel.

Can you send me a link to where those tires are sold? :D

Me too,I can't find them anywhere....

Any Trek dealer can order them for you. That's were I got mine. They are about $30 each, but I had a half off groupon.

Re: FlexLiner 7 - TwinFlex Spaceliner 6/2 Im Flexy and I Know It

I realy would like to know what the "at rest" position of the rear would be with me on the bike. I have not idea right now. Heck, I could weld it all up and sit on it and discover it's a lowrider. :p

I think I am going to rig up some temp rear struts so that I can dial in the length that my permanent ones need to be.

Not really, you just need the correct welding rod.

309 wire/rod is specifically made for welding stainless to carbon.

There is only one way to know it and that putting the rubber to the road. Grab a helmet and take one for the team.

I finally found a use for the schwinn exerciser angle iron chainguard.
I now have a working test rig for Flexy-Sexy-Nexy-7.

Re: FlexLiner 7 - TwinFlex Spaceliner 6/2 Im Flexy and I Know It

My wife came down and asked if I wanted to go on a bike ride, so I am stopping work on FlexLiner 7 today and rolling down the street on my Cannibal.

Here is a taste what "Flexiness" is all about!!!!

Re: FlexLiner 7 - TwinFlex Spaceliner6/3 Rolling Getcha Flexy On

Okay, so here are the details of the rolling test bed.

After rounding down the rough cuts from yesterday and reassembling, I was trying to think of a way to have a testbed to decide how long the final rear arms needed to be. Then it hit me. Use those beefy angle iron pieces from the parted out Schwinn Exerciser.

I also use another piece to make a temp springer bolt bracket.

I also check out the coaster arm, and I should be able to have a small bracke arm come down from the pivot bolt to secure it.

Went ahead and tested a few wheels in it.

Re: FlexLiner 7 - TwinFlex Spaceliner6/3 Rolling Getcha Flexy On

FREAKING SWEEET!! I NEED SOME OF THOSE BARS  KEEP IT UP B!! PEACE

Re: FlexLiner 7 - TwinFlex Spaceliner6/3 Rolling Getcha Flexy On

Thanks Jake.

This test bed setup will allow me to get a few things tuned in and even ridable until my buddy can do some welding for me.

I have already learned a few things about this rig.
- Top of the rear arms need to be firmly attached to the springer U-Arm. If the joint pivots it just torques the U Arm up.
- I need to find or make some spring cups that align the spring with the springer bolt better. It currently slides around a bit.
- I don't have to worry about the coaster brake arm anymore. I can easily make an extension from the main pivot bolt down to the brake
- No worries about lateral movement of the rear end. It is pretty sturdy if I try to wobble the bike from side to side.
- My geometry is good. Everything seems to move in such a way that the spring compresses along the axis that it is supposed to with no binding parts.
- The rear suspension is working great. It may even be a little too springy. I have no adjustment. I guess I could try to find a stronger spring.

This is gonna be fun!!!!

If anyone has some extra spring cups let me know. I am in the market for them.

Re: FlexLiner 7 - TwinFlex Spaceliner6/3 Rolling Getcha Flexy On

Sexy-Flexy! Looking good KF, verrrry ingenious! Home made springers are so cool. I'd like to do one some day.

Re: FlexLiner 7 - TwinFlex Spaceliner6/3 Rolling Getcha Flexy On

Thanks critter, those Exerciser bars are temporary.
Once I have everything worked out with these, I will know what length I need to make the arms from the MeteorFlite rear end.
Then it will have an even sexier rear end because the MeteorFlite was a ladies bike. 8)
