Actually, I think the fender is wide enough, but the braces are binding on the tire. I am thinking that I might cut the braces in half at the peak. Then I will have four individual braces that I can reattach so that they don't bind.

Of course I also have to worry about diameter. You can see at the tips of the fenders that there isn't much clearance from the tires.
Either way, they're looking great on that bike.

Thanks, I liked them so much I drove out to my bike stash to see what fender options I had. The CWC peaked fenders are actually too small.

I pulled this fat (80mm) fender from a Nirve Zuma.

Then I remembered that I had these curved brace fenders from an old Schwinn.

The braces aren't wide enough, but I can split them and add spacers to make them work.
I liked how the CWC curved braces made the rear end look almost like a nautilus shell, so I mocked this up with an extra set of braces. The spacing isn't exactly what I want, but good enough for a mockup.

I also pulled a set of donor pedals that I think will work.

Wow ! I caught up, been scrolling thru , been awhile since I have been able to sit down and check it out, and as usual you are having too much fun!!!! Happy Forth!!!

Someone posted up this pic on FB and told me the flipped skirt reminded them of a Chevy Fleetline

:39: Hmmm. The multiple braces are cool, but I think there's too much going on. I reckon either multi braces OR skirt, but not both.

Nice fleetline. I had a black 1951 Chev sedan many years ago... memories.

Glen.

I love how these Schwinn braces are tubular. They each had a bend at the fender end to make the braces perpendicular to the fender though. My tubing bender was the perfect size to curve them the other way a little.

Then I cut them all in half and was thinking I would put spaces to widen them, but I should be able to bolt them each individually on each side of the fender.

Hammered out the chain bend in the fender and mocked it up on the tire with lug nut spacers. Changed the layout and spacing of the curved braces too.

I also tested out the Monark reflector

You may be right, but I think part of what may make it look busy is the mix match of colors and the purple pops out.

I actually like the wire braces best (if you're keeping the skirts). The others are getting a little too busy IMO.

I must admit, those tubular braces are very cool. I've never seen any before. Maybe Glen's suggestion would help.

I think I'm feeling what you're throwing out there. That repetitive echo of the curve from the skirt all the way around to the seatstay with the fender braces... paint them to match/compliment the bike color, and it should work well.

THANKS to all for the feedback!
I agree that the pic with the wire braces looks good, but so does the one with the CWC braces that are silver. Both of these do not visually demand your attention. The purple ones on the other hand. . Good idea on the painting idea. I suggested the same thing to @OddJob during his early mockups and it made a HUGE difference. Also I am always limited in my tiny shop with the cluttered backdrop. I need to get this mocked up in monotone and get it outside to truly judge it.

Fun day in the shop today.
First I sanded and primed the curved fender braces. Can't remember if I ever showed how I use a yard sale towel bar as my paint drying rack.

While they dried I worked a lot on the hood scoop shroud and you can get a glimpse of it in the mockups with the black fender braces here. I still don't know what my paint scheme is gonna be, but had to cover that purple.

I couldn't be happier with the engineering and how well the Elgin shroud, tank scoop, and Chicken Noodle can meshed together!!!! This was tedious but FUN!!!!!!

First off, I drilled and tapped the headtube to accept the screws to hold the scoop bracket. This locked the scoop in pretty solid.

WP_20150704_14_32_09_Pro.jpg

Then I fabbed the upper bracket to work as a spacer and to attach the top shroud section. Once I bolted it all up the whole unit was very stable.

Once I had a rock solid platform it was time to cook some soup.
Cut the scoop so that the can could go behind it.

Then it was time for a test fit. (notice the tiny tabs on the shroud)

Looked great so I marked it up to take advantage of those little tabs.
FITS LIKE A CHAMP!!!!!!

I LOVE THE WAY THIS FITS TOGETHER!!!!!!
This was a fun jigsaw puzzle and I don't have to worry about it falling off when I ride down the cobblestone streets. It's solid!
Had to try out the RRB #010 Headbadge (I'll need to widen the curve on it to fit the soup shroud).

That ribbed section is so pretty that I would be tempted to mount that badge on the seat tube instead, except... yep. Looking great.

I was kinda thinking that too looking at the photos. Maybe I could string up some fine fishing line where the seat tube would be and have the headbadge floating in the void.

EDIT: I might come up with another idea for the headbadge, but I like the grill look of the ribbed soup can too much to cover it up with even a cool badge like this one.

That skirt those curved braces, the rear wheel is looking like an art deco fan...awesome.

The soup can turned out great, glad you're not covering it up.
