I’m posting this from a hospital bed so it’s going to be a late start! I built my wife a spaceliner she loves too ride but I rarely ride mine. Goal this year is something she’s willing to ride that’s similar too last years bike I built.

this was it when I brought-it home. Normally I wouldn’t buy a woman’s bike but I loved the patina.

stripped it down and cleaned it, sadly the fork had split inside the head tube over the years so I’ll be running a mismatch fork.

Then I put it on the stand before surgery as motivation. This will be slow but hopefully get done! Thanks for providing me with entertainment while I lay here!

Step-through frames are nice, especially pre and early post-war era. Love the patina and color on this one, too. Besides, it’s rude to assign a gender to a frame based on assumptions. Hope you heal quickly.

Looking forward to your ideas and creativity coming to fruition. Hope the hospital stay is a short one. You know me, I always love that patina!

RaT oN~!

Great crusty start! OG springers for the step thru frames can be bought much cheaper than the ones for mens frames due to the longer steer tube. Get well and be well!

Great patina!
Hope everything goes well with the docs and you are feeling well soon!

Nice Huffy! She'll probably like it better than the Spaceliner.

You can easily find the year of a Huffy or Huffman, the serial number will begin with the a number followed by an H. That would be the last digit of the year. 8H = 1958.

Hopefully only a short stay in the hospital. Have a BLT when you get home. Those tomatoes look good.

You know, you could have someone slice and splice a new steerer tube onto the matching fork, provided you have a donor fork. That's what I did on last year's Build Off Bike. I had one straight fork with a bent steerer tube, and another bent fork with a straight steerer tube. Took them to a local welder, and he cut the good steerer tube off the one and welded it to the fork I wanted to use. If you know how to weld, or know someone who can, I'd say give that a try. You'll be able to have matching patina throughout!

Whatever you choose to do, I think you'll have a fine bike in the end. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Thanks for the advice and well wishes. The current plan is look for a springer but I do have another fork that fits. I forgot how long these women steer tubes are! @bikefromthedead I wish I would have thought of that before throwing it in the scrap bin at work last year

Sorry to hear that using the original fork's no longer an option, but having a springer will be a nice upgrade I'm sure!

Now that I’m a little less drugged, the only firm plans for this are a banana seat, making the baskets fit with the fender and sissy bar and of course some brightly colored tires.

this is the men’s bike I built last year, and I basically plan to do a woman’s version with fenders!

Can't go wrong with a nanner.

well this fork color isn’t real close, it’s just the only one I have around with a long enough steer tube.

making the basket work with the sissy bar is a must, first attempt was this using the bar to hold it. I wasn’t a fan

some adjustments too the basket mounts got me in behind it. I want to use the old patina mounts so it’s a bit harder!

This is about wear I’m at. Only took me 2 days. Rehab sucks and my wife isn’t a fan of me messing with it yet but I enjoy the mind exercise of tinkering with the bike.

Used some child labor to dig out this spare parts build I wanted to rob atleast the rear wheel from.

Clutter is a bit of a problem when moving a full bike solo is a no and I’m crowded enough I can’t just roll them in line now!

A bunch of boring stuff, no luck finding a springer locally yet. So trying to age the forks I have a bit

Then I started trying out handlebar options

ok this last one was for laughs, I’m still not sure why I saved these bars! Then in a first world problem I don’t have a front wheel that matches the rear. Unless I swap axles.

I really need to scrap some wheels, I feel like a hoarder sometimes

This is the rear that fits as is, but my front choices are
636A1D09-BF3D-4EE8-A330-BFD950E451C8.jpeg
plus the red one in the background that I’ve wanted to stick on a bike forever. We have painted aluminum, chrome and rusty chrome options.
A lot of word vomit and just me trying things out of boredom. Atleast I didn’t photo the 20+ sprocket options right.

I like these bars the best. But the bull moose bars are kinda cool too. :D

Those are my current favorite, the bull moose bars might just be too much reach for my short wife.

Turn them around. Problem solved :D :D :D

So some good and some bad.

Forks well salted after spending most of the day in saltwater.

Found this old chrome sissy bar that may be a better cosmetic fit then the black one.

Then decided to test fit the fender and problems. Turns out my fork is a middleweight so either I smash the fender, hope to find a better fork or switch projects all together. I’ll figure it out
