Who needs a fork solution when you can make new problems. The chrome sissy bar isn’t an axle bolt so I got to drill holes in the frame

now I need to go get some hardware

had to flip the clamps around to move the sissy bar away from the axle

ill have to trim the bottoms but I like using the sawzall. The crusty chrome seems to fit the build better then the new black one. I did have to get help getting the seat into the sissy bar. It took more then 5 lbs of force to smash that in!

Tonight was a bit of playing with crank sets and sprockets. The best looking combo I tryed so far

but sadly that crankset is bent.

this one all fits, but I’m not sure about the modern crank arms.

Have a few more sprockets I can try, along with a bunch of crusty cranksets. This is mostly my boredom while I wait to hear back about some forks

gotta get that bike time in after the wife goes to work at night!

Good progress. Crimping the fender shouldn't be too bad if you don't find another fork.

Did some more digging, started to realize my wife might be right and I hoard bike parts.

that tote gave me a crank I like a lot better

Like every build, I don’t use the antique pedals or wheels.

Some boring stuff. Not even sure this is the front wheel I’ll end up with but I’m bored and a terrible patient post surgery

lots of marine grease and it should be ready. Probably the last update for a little bit. Sold a bike today so going fork hunting

Busy Sunday for me, got the bike into a decent mock up.

but as I feared with the cheap banana seat and sissy bar my wife hated it.

So it got torn back apart.

And I pulled out this crusty monark boys frame.

Then got out this fork I thought would work

but someone had cut it at some point and butchered the threads. It’s too short to trim again.

but I have a few other options. This mock-up is one of my favorite options although I don’t have colored tires in the correct sizes!

6 speed with atleast a front brake.
now If I manage to figure out how to change the title, this will explain it. Torn between cleaning up the weld or leaving it ugly. That was a hole!

@dropstep , if you click on the 'three dots' next to the Watch button, right at the top of your own thread (have to have your build thread open on your screen to do this) then click on 'Edit' and you can change or add to, your title.

I like the Monark frame with the 'naner. Should make a good 6 speed 'Spyder' type ride!

I was debating dropping out of the build. Not much desire to build a bike that won’t get ridden. But one of my sons wants a banana seat (I won’t put it on his prewar) so he’s now 90% in charge of design decisions. This will give him a good beater bike.

He wants a coaster brake, but likes the skinny front tire.

im not sure I like his bar choice (or that he’s tall enough to reach) hopefully get his sprocket picked out tonight so we can sit it down and see if he fits.

my kids are short so he sat on my bike first and a 26 is a stretch! But this keeps me on the build off.

He picked his sprocket so it’s torn down and everything’s had a bath.

Time to start greasing and assembling things!

Thanks for the pep talk guys. Did a bit of reassembly today.

His sprocket choice isn’t my favorite, but like the bars I let him decide. Now his twin brother wants a banana seat bike. I knew this was coming.

Ah yes! Now I remember, the tales of your twin boys!
The three 'big boy' bikes that I have built using 'naner seats are still some of my favorite riders. Just something about being slung back in that saddle.

We made it this far on re assembly. Now he’s off helping his grandpa move stuff. Because I don’t know what to do when I’m home alone I’ll likely rebuild and grease the rear wheel myself tonight.

yeah i sold all my comp crawler stuff about 5 years ago with all my parts because i was done. we see how that worked out
