I decided to try and restore the Mesinger seat. I read about automotive vinyl and fabric paint and I'm going to give it a go.
Pan is cleaned and ready for paint. I've never seen one disassembled before and was surprised to find the dents and creases.

You've been heard! No F14s allowed. Wasn't VF-211, before becoming VFA-211 flying F14s at one time, though?
Well... if you want to use history as your story, you could go back to March 1959 when the squadron was redesignated to VF-211, and they were flying the F-8 Crusader. I don't know what year your bike was made. Do you? I'm assuming in the 50's. In the 50's when they were designated VF-24, they flew the FJ Fury, the FJ-3M, the F3H-2M Demon, the F-11F Tiger and the F-8 Crusader.

Obviously I love naval history. I found all that out on Wikipedia.

F8 👌

Love a good gunfighter. 40 years of service and people still loved them up until retirement. Reminiscent of the A10 popularity

So after reading up some and getting some tips I restored and repainted the Mesinger seat using automotive fabric and vinyl paint.
The 71 represents the CVN Aircraft Carrier Theodore Roosevelt, which VFA-211 is attached to. The stripes represent the flight deck runway.

That came out fantastic! Nice work!

Today was a good day. Started off with a road trip, a two-fer deal on a couple 1960s middleweights.

Then finished up a refreshing of a 24" JC Higgins we're gifting to a friend

Finally got around to my Build-off bike and had a friend over who was a great assistant.

Then, at 10:04 PM EST I became a grandpa for the first time!

Those dents and creases aren't from the factory. They are usually caused by a rider clinching up as they are flying down a hill when they realize their brakes don't work!! Great "buttina" on that saddle pan!

Congrats on the first time grandpa status! I'm due for that in November; well, technically my daughter-in-law is 'due' in November. I'm just looking forward to it.

Wow! That seat turned out well. Stellar work, and it fits the build perfectly. Your skills showing up on this build remind me of why you are a former OddJobb Award winner!

And, I'm pretty sure your wife won't notice the difference in her yoga mat.
