2014 'BONINE' RULES

"TRADITIONAL" BUILD OFF RULES

1. You can only enter one bike in the build off (can change bikes once if needed)
2. Start a new post and use the bike name as the post "Subject/Title." Keep a running journal in your thread about your build.
3. Must use a factory production frame....no altering of original frame except for grinding off fender/chainguard tabs or shortening seat tube.
4. Bike must not already be built.
5. Must include before, progress, and finished photos (all in one thread please)
6. Bike must be ridable.
7. Use any bolt on parts you like.
8. Paint must be applied by builder, no powder coating...pinstripping by someone else is acceptable.
9. Don't ask a bunch of goofy questions trying to get around the rules...just build a cool bike and have fun.

"ANYTHING GOES" BUILD OFF RULES
1. You can only enter one bike in the build off (can change bikes once if needed)
2. Start a new post and use the bike name as the post "Subject/Title." Keep a running journal in your thread about your build.
3. Bike must not already be built.
4. If you are building a custom frame, frame must be built by the forum member (this includes welding and fabrication).
5. Must include progress and finished photos (all in one thread please)
6. Bike must be ridable.

If the site moderators feel that your bike does not fit into the Traditional build off class you will be notified and your thread will be moved to the Anything Goes build class.

***Please be courteous to others and do not fill their build journals with off-topic posts. If it continues after a moderator warning, your account will be nuked.

This year's build off will begin on MAY 1ST, 2014 and will end on AUGUST 3rd, 2014.

You must post photos of your completed bike in the "FINISHED RRBBO9" forum by 9:00 p.m. CST, August 3, 2014.

Better now than never, but I think I'll be "in" this year. I can't decide which category I'll enter tho..... My plan can fit into either, but I may have to go with the AG since I'll have to have some welding done. I can "slop-tack" weld with the best of them, but this build will require a skilled welder.

I think welding has to be done by the builder in Anything Goes.

Funny thing in Traditional Class the builder has to do their own painting, but there is no rule against someone else doing work or fabrication on your bike (but it's obviously an assumed rule).

Well.....crapola. I misread Line 4. Mine HAS to have welding done. I guess I can either learn how to weld aluminum real quick or not participate this year.......
Steel is real... Frame swap! ;)

Luke.

No frame swap. I've been wanting to build this one for awhile. It will probably be my last one for awhile too. I've got a lot of other things to take care of that will put the bikes on the back burner for awhile. I've been planning this one for about a year and a half and have a "vision" for it....:cool2:

I see nothing in the rules about a "repair" to a frame as opposed to an alteration. I think having a crack fixed is only returning the frame to it's factory original spec., but is that "work"? It does nothing to enhance or modify the bike in any way. I mention this because I have a bike that has had a bad repair done to it, and now the frame is bent. I might be able to unbraze it and straighten the frame then rebraze. I also know a real welder could easily do it. So for now my old Hawthorne sits, while I build other bikes. Of course I could just have it fixed and build the bike I want. o_O But being in a build-off with it seems more fun. Either way, this ones on the back burner cuz I'm buildin' a Bronco Tandem for BONINE anyway...(insert clown face smiley here)

Chips, I've got myself into trouble saying this before, but why wait for a build off if you have a "vision" in mind that doesn't fit within the rules.
Just build the dang thing and post it in "Builds" for everyone to enjoy without all the hype of BONINE.....

That thought did cross my mind. I'll build it regardless of if I do it for the BO. Timing just happened to work out to make it possible to participate.

I'm not altering the original frame. More like repairing and adding 2 pieces as part of the repair.

I would be very interested to see the results if there was only one category, and it was basically anything goes. Would all the traditional guys have a huge disadvantage, or would something like the fordsnake build still rise to the top?

This could be done by combining the top ten of each category into a head to head vote after the initial results are in.

It would also be interesting if the votes were not made visible until the polls were closed. Being able to see the votes as they come in is fun to watch, but it also influences how later votes are cast.

Is there a way to have the votes not seen until you cast your vote?

Steve, I think you're right...

I like the idea of a shoot out with the tops from each class tho...
BUT, Ten from each would probably be a skewed list.
The 11th Traditional bike would likely have more votes than the 5th place AG...
Maybe only the top five... I'd bet it still be skewed.

Carl.

Think I found a frame, have some other parts laying around. I'll need to find a few others. This one will be a little milder than my previous two, but with a couple of new twists. Hail in our forecast again...
