A couple of thin strips of a beer can under the clamp might help.

I second this. Beer and soda aluminum is a lot less caustic to the materials over time and itself breaks down first, but the space filler makes that a decades long venture for pennies.

If the problem returns perhaps you can sand the flat surfaces thereby reducing the vertical inside diameter of the clamp.
