After 24 hours in vinegar soup the battery tube hangers have a little patinafication attitude about them.

Maybe some electroplating as well. They are back in place.

@MazdaFlyer I used a rubber band that the tubes for my bike came with to hold the brake cable in place. It holds pretty solid

Looks like a good use for those rubber bands that I usually throw away. Hadn’t thought about uses for those. Thanks.

If you lightly brush that friction tape,, with a little soft brass brush: will, give it the age looked.
I have builds they have had that tape on them for about 18 years now..

Really like the reflectors

I have a brass brush I’ve used for cleaning parts, it should add little used aged look for sure. Thanks for the tip and positive reflector comment.

The friction tape worked great. The first thing I thought of was an old cord, just like that one (maybe on a vacuum cleaner?) at my grandma's that had friction tape wrapped around it where it had worn or come apart. Fits the build vibe well!

Yah I decided that the previous amber reflector was a little too garish. The new one is a bit tamer.
My Dremel tool cord has some tape on it also. The variable speed power control doesn’t have a positive off. I’d left it plugged in on a previous project. I didn’t get it completely shut off so it proceeded to try to cut its cord. It got through the insulation to the first conductor before I noticed. Thus the tape, still works fine.

Looking great! I love the parrot. Very nice touch.

A little lull in the LaidBack Build, waiting on a part or two.
I had this Excelsior or Elgin mid 30’s bike that I had done some work on last Fall. It was going to be my Build Off bike until I found the “Schwinn The World” bike.
I took my first prototype tank trimmed off a couple front corners and fit it to the badged Excelsior. It’s rough but tells me my tank idea and process would fit the shorter headtube frames with some revision at the front.

And LaidBack laid back today.

Lock Hanger Ver.1.0:
With some scrap metal from tank fabrication I threw together a bracket for the “Cycloc”.
I bent the metal around the lock loop bar, cut a piece of strap pipe hanger, formed it to seat tube and pop riveted the two together. The rivet will hold the lock in place until it is needed. Then you just unlock it and remove the loop bar. Pretty basic, I see some room for improvement so there may be a Ver.2.0.

A little 'roughing up' of that strap, and then a one-two punch of Hammered and / or Multicolor Texture, followed by a ... of rubbed on acrylic paint and that lock bracket will be a real 'knock out'.

You’re putting in lots of work, looks great. I admit I didn’t read all the posts, but many of them. I’ve seen your tire struggles, I have some taller vintage NOS tires, what size exactly do you need?

The bracket is “cooking” in vinegar soup. Then comes the evaluation as to what else it gets. There’s NOS bracket on eBay for $35 if I recall correctly. It is a one piece deal.

The fork is pretty beefy, yet the truss rod bracket is bolted to the bottom of the fork. Not sure if the red bike is an Elgin or an Excelsior. This has been discussed in another thread though in case anyone is interested.

The lock bracket is out of vinegar soup after 24 hours.

I drug out old LaidBack and fit the lock and bracket to the seat post. Seems to work OK after finding an optimum height for lock removal and storage placement.

“Secret ingredients”, oil residue on parts. No cleaning prior to soaking. Think there is some chemical reaction with the zinc and brass. The bowl has been a plant saucer over time so some residual fertilizer residue should be present as well. Thanks!

I wonder if pickles would add a touch of green.
