Totally dig the little bars on it.
That side view of the new bars is a good one, shows how well they look on the bike.
Glad you guys are seeing what I am, they are still not perfect, maybe a little narrow my personal taste, and the handles could have less pull back for comfort, I could make some up that would be spot on, but I am liking the idea of having some chrome on the bike, so not sure...Totally dig the little bars on it.
I actually rode around ringing the bell today! That bell on the new bars is a nice added touch...
Thanks Jake, should have a new ride video with these bars soon! Can't wait to see this beast cruising. Great concept
Thanks OJ! I wanted those bars to be "out there" but they were probably too much for this bike, be interesting to throw them on my cruiser and see what happens...Form follows function I always say, especially with bikes. I mean, they were meant to ride, right? Those X-apes were a little "over the top" (pardon the pun) and now you have a bike that still looks cool and rides right. Well done! Finishing touches....?
Luke, the new bars are a big improvement to the look of the bike to me. The X bars where too busy for my taste. That bike is so unusual by itself that it doesn't need crazy bars competing for visual attention (in my opinion).
Looking forward to the paint scheme!
The tall bars were visually interesting and well executed...but not very practical. I'm glad you came to a sensible compromise.
How much to ship that Pedro to NJ ? Haha Awesome buddy i love it the wheels are my favorite part of the build . The X bars take away from the sleek design i personally feel the smaller one fit the bike's design much better . I'm glad to see the weather is much better for you , now we get to suffer in winters wrath .
Glad you guys are liking the smaller bars, I was worried people would prefer the big ones and they are just far too hard to ride with! I mocked up the X bars on my cruiser today, and it could work, but I end up with my hands too close together again... They definitely need a rethink for use on any bike...I like it. No more wondering if it's too weird, it just looks right. I've changed mine up again too, different drivetrain for me... Pedro is cool.
Carl.
Valid point Rusty... I guess I am leaning towards more the RatFink style paint wise... Way out there...With such an outlandish frame, is a gaudy paint job even necessary? Would it actually detract from the craftmanship? I checked Lamborghini's color palate and they're actually pretty subdued. About the wildest ones offered are a brilliant yellow or chartreuse. Your decision, of course, but were it mine, I'd apply a quality job in a bright solid color and let those curves speak for themselves.
That is awesome! Look what I have waiting for a future build:Found you a different front tire. I love my local recycling center.
Need to find a 2.5"x17" rim to put it on.
Surprisingly easy to ride with more standard bars on it! I didn't realise myself just how wide they are, the bike has wide BMX bars on it at the moment and the pedals are still the widest part of the bike!OMG! That is so cool!
As cool as the tall bars are (nice work BTW) I am more of a fan of the smaller ones.
The pedals though, it just didn't hit me until I saw the pedals how wide the BB bracket is. Every time I look at the pictures I have to laugh.
It must be like straddling a horse, I hope it doesn't hurt to pedal.
Probably fit a recumbent bike well enough...Glad you guys are liking the smaller bars, I was worried people would prefer the big ones and they are just far too hard to ride with! I mocked up the X bars on my cruiser today, and it could work, but I end up with my hands too close together again... They definitely need a rethink for use on any bike...
Luke.
Heard the shout out at end of video:
NO BRAKES.
Brakes are on now, huge difference to ride!I think he said..."I need brakes."
but nothing about seat padding hmm...
Man them Aussies are tough....
Carl.
Looks like Pedro rides great!..
Much more comfortable ride with those bars, but the new bars are even better!Luke, You look so much more comfortable riding in this video!!
Baby Apes are Kewl!!!
Luke, I think you are going to appreciate those wider bars for stability sake and handling. Plus, with your feet splayed out like that, it only seems right that your hands should be also! This bike is so dang cool, I look at it and don't even think about a paint job; the raw steel and tons of rubber has such a future industrial look to it. But I remember seeing your 50 yr bike, and that paint was killer, so I'm sure you have something really wild in mind!
Is holographic green metal flake over a black base wild enough for you? Really looking forward to it, I have to get the dry flake gun and the rest of the stuff ordered!Looking forward to: the Flakey Fink paint job....
