Now that it's a rider I finally got to test the wheelie bar!

Back in the 70's I could wheelie one particular bike that I had built for as far as I wanted to go. I can remember on one occasion challenging myself to see how many times I could circle the neighborhood on the rear wheel. After several trips around the block I got bored and let it down. That was then, this is now. :21:

I have to say that having never had a wheelie bar, it takes some getting used to it. I'm slowly getting the hang of it, but the small wheel seems to make it harder to control the forward direction. Or maybe it's just the fact that I'm 40 years older! :blackeye:

Anyway, it turned out to be roughly 25° in the wheelie position.

Looking forward to the video

I've ridden bikes with a wheelie bar but they have always had two wheels. It makes a three point stance that is very stable. You can almost sit still leaned back into the rising position. I was wondering how your single wheel would react...

Carl.

I thinking that it has more to do with the wheel being rigid. It's sort of the same issue as your duel rear wheel in that it drags the wheel to the side if you turn. The ones that I've looked at with two wheels used a skate truck. I also looked up the Skeeter that @kingfish254 posted and it has a pivot in the middle.

A redesign of the bracket may be in order.:39:

One Sure Grip jump plate had to be sacrificed today. As a kid, I used to lay in bed and dream of owning skates with these plates and Ridell boots. Today I took a cut off wheel to one.:shake::grin:

Here's a preliminary mock up of my second attempt at a functional wheelie bar.
