Schwinn Twinn replacement wheels

I have a 1970 Schwinn Twinn with s7 wheels and I want to know how wide of a rim can I put on it, maybe a 26 x 2.125? Also, do I need 12 gauge spokes or will 14 gauge work?

My 63 Schwinn tandem is a middleweight, came with 1.75, but fits 2.125 fairly easily. I'd stick with the heavier spokes for a tandem.

I got 14g stainless spokes on ours and we go 500 lbs. me and the boy plus groceries no problems.... Most tandems run 14g I think.. :roll:
