I like the relocated downtube shifters I put on the "USAAF" bike because they work well and I think they hint at old aircraft control levers.

not entirely alot and it si just bling but here is some recent additions to my road kill build.

the chain hanging on the coaster brake and rear wheel with washers acting as mounting brackets

a gearshift knob fashioned into a rear light mount. behind that skull is a dog toy raccoon that I use as an ornament I have to find a picture of it later

A cog on the left side of the crank ... whashers behind wheel nuts to preserve paint and look cleaner ... Brass seat post nut to add a golden touch

old grips lockring (gold anodized) to hide the handlebar sleeve and add contrast

dropping the fork just a little more

useless stitching just for that look

cut pegs just to make it clean looking

a piece of a sprocket for the custom fork .... also that dremel engraved lead emblem

beauty is in the details ill say

This thread inspired three of my builds: Speedster, Yellow Belly, and Dreamcatcher. Tomorrow, I hope, I will do the full write-up and photo shoot for Yellow Belly. Dreamcatcher was delivered to the powder coated today for a generous portion of red (it was already red but I wanted it flawless and redder.)

I still think my favorite is the Ford blue one with the Felt in Ford script on the "tank". Speedster is close.

And how did you do the lettering on Yellow Belly tires?

A company called Tredwear stamped out a ton of the logos for me. I ordered nearly 100 of them.

Set screws and deraileur hangers were used to mount the drop stand. As per my usual custom decals on the rims.

Look deep into the handlebars and you will see a ring of fake diamonds. The grip tape was wrapped to mimic tennis rackets and located the rider's hands. Leather toe clip straps were used to mount the number plate which is a repurposed face shield from a motorcycle helmet.

Less is more cool. Here the gear shift cable cover was left off to expose it. The DK half-link chain looks awesome in place.

The layback seat post had a big 'ole hole in it which fouled the look of the rear of the bike. I created a subtle fix for that.

California law dictates that we have to have front and rear lights on our bikes. I've flipped the fender on the bike and used the lower mounting tab to mount the rear light.

This wasn't my stem of choice but using it gave me another opportunity for another cool little detail.

Notice the Felt logo over the crank's center bolt. You'll also notice the leather cable ties that use magnetic clasps. These were fun to make.

I got a new phone and I forced myself to take some pics and video with it. I then forced myself to edit it on my phone like normal people and not use my real camera and and editing suite.

A few of the little details that give my bike a little personality;

Pinstriped sprocket;


Cup holder that was made from a tin can found on my in-law's property. The skull ornament was picked up a recent car show;


Skull door lock pins used for nuts to hold the banana seat bolts in place;


The iron cross fender ornament was picked up at the same car show that the skull came from. It was attached to a reflector bracket-

PBR bottle cap hand grip endcaps-


The rusted reflector came from a fender that I picked up at an antique shop-

Here is my latest completed build. It has to be said this thread changed the way I build period! This is Dreamcatcher and it is loaded with details.

The cable covers are fat lace shoe strings sewn around the cables.

Fork caps were made for oil caps for a Kawasaki motorcycle.

I'll post up one of my most recent details that I'm proud of, to get this thread going. A motorcycle light that I stuffed some LEDs in to get it working:

I bought them new from a 5 and dime where this really cute lady works. I saw her today and bought more shoe strings. I will be doing a board track racer Felt of this once I get another frame. I like the Dreamcatcher name but I already have a name for it. It will employ some unique touches. Stay tuned.
