WOW! RRBO5-Voting is almost as exciting as last years...

1st or 2nd place for Engine No:9 and Sidewalk Super Villain Supernaut. Both didn't get a vote from me but they sure do belong at the top of this years build-off. And Skull-o-Sis... Amazing bikes...

My votes however, went to 'Black & Wild' (style), 'The Grady Rocket' (rat), and 'Grandpa Rockhopper' (original building ideas). Man! What an amazing make-over thát was... Really my kind of stuff.

Yup, voting being open to EVERY member is 90% part of the fun. The voting-system is okay I guess.... And I think iit would be very hard to come up with a different, if not better voting system.... But it still got me thinking though.

1> I still don't get it why one would want to give one of his/her votes to his/her own build... I really don't get that.... But, maybe it would be a good idea to make EVERY build-off participant give one of their votes to their own builds. That would be way more honest, and everybody's happy for not having the big 0 on his/her shoulders... (maybe 4 votes..?)

2> I could be wrong but I think ...when voting, one is deffinately influenced by seeing the scoreboard. Maybe it would also be a good idea to only have access to the scoreboard after one has cast his or her votes.

I'd really like to see the outcome of that...

(...oh, and these discussions on the voting-system ofcourse make up for the other 10% of the fun... ;-)

:D Truly inspirational, all these cycles are prize winners! I really struggled this time ..as ever! Well done guys and gals round of applause for all of you :D

1-Voting for oneself! Come on now! thats not playin cricket!!Nor would lots of new members under the name of 'little rat rods aunt' suddenly appearing on the forum... 8) this game is played fair and square in a true sporting manner!

2-I didnt see the score board till I voted, has something changed after Herr_Rudolf's cool idea?

Boris

i totally agree that the status of the votes should not be shown at least till a person has voted. although and i dont know if this is possible i think the results should be totally hidden (only steve should be able to see) till it is all over. another way would be for each person to pm their votes to steve. i know it would be daunting but that would take the visible "poll" out of it. all i can say is this will be tight and no worrys bout no 9 cause no 3 is not far behind

Steve said the votes are done by a program , and I doubt that he would want to count everybody's votes . If it were done by him I would imagine , judging from some of the posts on here , that several would demand a recount....Hummm sounds like Florida all over again. My congrats to everybodys builds. I know in each of your minds you produced a winner , no matter the outcome of the voting I feel like you have made it. I really feel like this site is devoted to creating your dream and the fact that everyone else gets to enjoy it , is just a plus.

Unfortunately there is no way to hide the voting results from the members once they have voted...that's just a part of the voting system.

It might also be tough for everyone to wait an entire week before they saw the results.

Regardless...it's all just a goof anyway...build a bike you like and if someone else likes it, hey...icing on the cake.

No need to hide them after the vote, before makes sense though. Voting for your own build? Why? :? That's kind of like worrying about what kind of bike someone else built. :p Or cheating. Why bother, it's all a hoot. Arnold Schwinn ain't giving out a contract to the winner.

I don't see it making much of a difference. All the bikes are pictured in the gallery. peeps is gonna like what they like, regardless of the votes.

personally, i kinda like seeing em.
As for voting for yourself, i look at it this way.
If you can't find 3 bikes in the rrbbo (other than your own) worthy of your appreciation/vote.
Well your probably on the wrong forum. :)

So the end draws near...

As with any contest, we all like to see our opinions validated, and see that others agree with us. But more importantly, we need to remember that we're here, online in this cool space that Steve has created, because we're all a little different from the mainstream crowd.

We're the folks who march to a different drummer, who have our own style, who strive to do something just a little above and beyond what is offered to the masses.

The sum total of creativity and innovation shown on this forum every day is proof that thinking outside the box (or outside the diamond frame) yields incredible results. People from around the world are getting together on here to show off their mechanical creations, their artistic visions, their metalworking and graphical skills. This place is like no other.

Remember, whoever wins this contest, they well deserve it, and among the other entries, not a loser in the bunch. There are easily 20 bikes here I'd love to own. There are several I'd buy if they were offered by some innovative bicycle company as a production model. (I do hope Pacific, Electra, Felt, and the others are watching and learning.)

This showing was the best Rat Rod Build Off ever. It's been really fun to watch, overwhelming to try to decide on a few "bests", and humbling to see the level of work put into some of these 2-wheeled (and occasionally 3-wheeled) machines. I mean it when I say the love of machinery, of design, of spinning metal, runs through my veins and yours. Some of these bikes just stop me in my tracks and I say "WOW!" Quite a few of them left me with my jaw hanging open, staring at the details and the finish work.

All the participants in RRBBO5- thanks for making it happen. Steve, RatRod, thanks bro for hosting the whole party. All who viewed and voted and support the site in your own ways, we're all lucky to be part of such an awesome community in this place and time. I know that's how I feel.

Peace and Keep 'em Rolling!
