I find it hard to choose. I am not a big fan of sissy bars, and usually like them just a an inch or two above the seat... But yours looked pretty awesome in the first place so I don't know. I think I will be impressed either way.

Speaking of paint. I tested the paint colors on the testbed fender. Anodized blue, flat black, and chrome
That looks like a good height for the sissy. Maybe bend the seat post back a bit to make top of the seat parallel with the sissy/straight tubes?

Here is another paint that I am also using.
Just don't make the sissy short enough to be stabby when you lean back...no one likes a stabby sissy

I appreciate all of the feedback on shortening the sissy bar. While I was contemplating that, I worked on the headlight. Took it apart and secured it properly to the fork.
Then I pulled out the can of Krylon Stained Glass paint that I picked up at craft store the other night.
This stuff was awesome to work with! You just use light coats. It goes on kinda cloudy, but wait a little while and it dries clear and tinted. You just continue the process of light coats until you get the tone you want. I couldn't be happier with the result. This is exactly what I wanted.

Here it is on the bike.
After listening to you guys and others on facebook and sitting there staring at the sweatshirt shrouded sissy bar, I decided that my idea was the right one and I cut the bar down. Now that I have done it and looked at the overall flow and vibe, it feels like it should have been a no-brainer. I think it lends itself well to the sporty racer vibe of the build. It is starting to become the Western Sizzler X-53 Blue Light Special!!!!!
