Diggin' the stripes, diggin' the whole bike!

I had one thought about your awesome seat- it might look cool if you were to reshape the curved line at the top of the bars to a wider strip that comes to a point in the middle, or work it into a scallop like the top of an interstate sign.

I don't know if that flows with the whole bike or not, but it came to mind when I saw your design laid out. Keep up the fine work!

That's a cool idea, but I don't think it will quite work with the space that I have. Plus, there is not way to really rework this. I can polish more rusty areas, but I can't add 80 years of rust in areas that are already polished. I kept the border thinner because I wanted to differentiate it from the thicker stripes. Thanks for the suggestion, glad you like the build.

Took the trash out late tonight and stopped in the shop to noodle on the build again. This mole trap has potential as my headlight bracket once I remove the spiky guillotine section.

The things we will use on our bike builds.... Can't wait to see how you use it. :D

I bought that mole trap at a yard sale awhile back because I saw a cool faux springer look to it and it's been sitting around.
My thoughts last night where to just use the frame to make a relatively simple headlight mount with the light mounted on top.
But, after looking at it again, I may cut the spikes off and keep the springer part so that it looks like an additional spring on the front of the Girvin. Then use the plate that the spikes are on as the light mount. This might work out pretty cool.

Cut the spikes and extra hardware off of the mole trap so that I could place it on starsNbars to see how it might look. What do you think? I think in its current state the springer part is too tall. you can see on the last picture that it's easy to compress to whatever height I need. I'll drill another catch hole and try it out where the springer section is the same height as the girvin springer section.

I just don't think I am feeling this faux springer on there. I think it could look really cool on a different fork or build, but it just isn't right here.

Less is best and you know what's best B!!

I really like where this is going kf, tell me again why you're painting it? I think it looks great as is, and you know how I love to paint stuff! Hahahaha.
Cheers buddy,

Hey Tank, I'm not painting it. I love this crackled red house paint. It's full of character. Glad your feeling it. It's a sweet ride already and I haven't even hooked up the shifter yet.

Whew! OK, now I can sleep. :)

I plan to paint the forks to mimic the seat and I do plan to put crème pinstripes between the top bars and down tubes, but no other major painting. It's unreal how close a match the Iver Johnson chainguard is to the frame. I guess you might have seen the paint can that RMan posted, but that was just a suggestion on how to make the green chainring jewels blue.
Sleep well my friend, I'm not painting the frame anodized blue or textured rust. :D

Come to spy...:crazy2: Lookin great love the boa's and the old bars(think they would look great on my build...;)

Just had fun flow of thought session in my shop. Luke recently posted a link to Der Rod Baron from BO6 and I saw where @gowjobs used some bike chain to secure his coaster brake arm. I had been wanting a different way to secure my front drum brake, so I went out to the shop to experiment. As I started playing around I though it might be cool to wrap the entire fork in chains

Then I thought maybe make horizontal stripes for the fork
WP_20140607_15_12_35_Pro.jpg

From there I thought, "what if I did my vertical stripes in rusty chain?"

Which was followed by, "What about the stars on the upper legs?"

So maybe something like this with three stars up top and four stripes below.

You just missed my latest rusty chain starsNbars idea to spy on.

Finally cabled up my Nexus3 so that I could test the gearing.
Also semi laced up the snakeskin leather grips.
I bought the Sun Line motocycle brake levers from @yoothgeye when he came to Savannah. I mounted them up today. I only need the front one for the drum brake, but I mounted both for balance. I may find a use for the right one (ala @raggedjim ) or I may just use the left one.
Went for a long ride and the gears work great. I'm not sitting as low as I did on Firewing, so I have to reach down a little farther, but hat on Uncle Sam is easy to push down or left up on the brim. The gearing with the smaller chainring is perfect.
Here are some pics from the ride. It had just rained before I went out. The temp stripes are working just as I hoped they would. Adding just enough highlight to the double tubes, but not a distraction.

After looking over some of the ride pics with uncluttered backgrounds, I don't think I am going to use the rusty bike chain starsNbars on the fork. I think it's a slick idea, but I don't like the idea of bulking up the forks. I may still use the bike chain to secure the drum brake arm though. Also, it looks like I need to raise the shifter up just a bit.

Those grips are really setting the bike apart King! They look awesome!

Luke.

Thanks Luke. These are very well made and I have RockIt to thank for them. I need to get slightly longer leather laces for them though. They remind me of the grips that @DoubleL used on Speed King last year which had even longer streamers.

I was wondering when you wer going to start your add-ons...

Hasn't been much so far. I try cool ideas that come to me, but then I do like Jake and listen to the build and it pulls an Amy Winehouse on me and says "No no no". :D
