Such a cool thread! I am 90% certain I will be needing a back yard shed soon so this is really cool inspiration. Unfortunately, I am seriously lacking your skillset. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks for the encouragement! It's hard to squeeze in building time with fulltime teaching, shortened daylight and family events in the mix and for the next weekend they even announced snow! 🥶 We will see...

If you need more inspiration I can highly recommend the Britisch Channel 4 series "George Clarke's Amazing Spaces" I draw a lot of inspiration from there. You can acces it through the TV-stations webpage (account and vpn needed as it's geoblocked) or you coud watch and/or download the first six seasons from the Internet Archive

A very busy weekend is almost over. Yesterday we celebrated our little ones 8th birthday. As we didn't want any parents to worry, we celebrated mostly outside and finished the party off with a bonfire and stick bread in our garden.
And for the first time the shed could proof it's value. As we all went outside it started raining an I had to rearrange the party table to the inside of the shed. The kids liked it! 😁🤘

Today I made good use of a sunny afternoon and finished of the vapor barrier up to the rooftop. Like this I don't have to climb up anymore at the end of a building session to cover the shed and it's protected against rain and snow. 👍

Almost ran out of staples...
IMG_20211128_154020300.jpg

Next on the list is mounting the corrugated roofing. But to be able to do that I need to get the right screws first. Until then the shed remains like this with the big gap covered up...

And here's today's video:

Well, everyone certainly looks happy! 😊
Some of the parents in our kids school take data protection really serious. So I'll prefer to be on the safe side here... 🤷

Today this box arrived:
IMG_20211203_194258034.jpg

1500 screws bought through fleabay for a price I would get about 300 in a normal DIY store...
IMG_20211203_194304946.jpg

Now I only have to wait for decent weather to put up the roofing...
This weekend the forecast announced rain and snow at temperatures around zero degrees Celsius... 🥶
Not my preferred weather for building a shed...
So maybe I'll tend to the various bikes that are in need of repair this weekend...

As the forecast was right🌧️🌨️🌧️, I took care of other stuff. But the most important thing today was that my older son made his yellow belt in Judo! 🥋 So proud!

Back from the sports hall I headed to the basement to repair my daily rider...
One important part was missing. I don't know for how long, I just discovered the issue two days ago:
IMG_20211204_154955322.jpg

The bolt had probably broken and the clamp was lost...
IMG_20211204_154946430.jpg

IMG_20211204_155000673.jpg

My parts boxes are all in the campground so no fitting clamp was available. No problem there.. 😉
IMG_20211204_170359178.jpg

While at it I took care of another issue that bothered me for quite a while now. The arm of the front drum brake had to much wiggle room. Some more of the metal band took care of that.
IMG_20211204_165530685.jpg

Thight fit now:
IMG_20211204_170346497.jpg

And as the wheels had to come off anyway, I mounted the spikes tyres.
IMG_20211204_170332911.jpg

Winter can come now!
The final task today was to finally exchange the gearshifter on my little ones bike. Sorry no pictures, was in a hurry, as other duties (honey do) were already calling...
Off to the kitchen now... 🍲

Today I generously got allowed to spend some more time in the basement with my bikes. 😁
First I had to take care of a flat tyre on my egg-beater, no big deal there, no pics. Then I took care of Clear-out and Wolverine. Since a while now I had the idea to swap bottom brackets and cranks on those two. The Wolverine had cottered cranks and Clear-out sported square cones... Long story short, swap is done. The crankset on the Wolverine might not be final but it's a start as I have some more options now and the look is much cleaner.

The cottered cranks in their new home:

Sadly I had to part ways today with a companion of almost thirty years:

While refitting the bottom bracket on the Wolverine the clamp of my trusted Minoura bike mount broke off... 😥😥

No progress since the last update.
Today I went on a walk with my older son to get some fresh air and to check on the shed. Saw a lot of beaver tracks on the way and a few other animal tracks in the garden...

On the way (the local beaver family is very busy recently...):

And in the garden (most probably a crow and a fox):

And of course the shed (I had to resecure the tarp):

Try wrapping the trees with aluminum flashing 2' up they won't cut then............Curt
It's not my trees they cut. They are on public ground and to be honest, I like to see the beavers doings. There are about 50-60 known beaver families on city ground here in Berlin I think that's really amazing!
Not to speak of the first ever pack of wolfs that set up camp within city borders a few months ago.
City wildlife is always full of surprises and fascination!

Today I finally managed to get something done on the shed. The last few weeks, there was either now time or the weather was bad... Today it was ok, so after shopping for the long weekend was done I packed my gear and went to the garden.
I didn't take any pictures besides the video,as I was to busy figuring out how to get the roofing done. I only got one row done but at least I made some progress.

I had to deal with some setbacks as well:
While at it I realized that the selfdrilling screws are not any good at self drilling, so I'll have to predrill all holes. 🙄
Also the edges I made at the left and right edge of the roof do not fit the waves of the roofing and I had to take off the one on the left.. 🤔
And probably I will have to add more screws, as they do not go very deep into the wood below.
Maybe I'll get some more done next week...
Have a merry Christmas everyone and thanks for watching!🎄

Yeah, I had trouble getting the waves on the corrugated roofing to line up. I did pilot holes with a drill for my self drilling roofing screws. The only thing for me to do in the spring is to stain and apply the cedar trim boards That will hide the ugly used wood. Both these sheds are made from used or scrap left over wood.

I have ample cedar and pine boards from when we built our cabin in 2008.

This weekend a winter storm passed over Berlin, so I checked on the shed today, just to realize that the tarp I covered the front with was ripped off and the top one of the rear vapor barrier sheets was flapping in the wind as well..
No big deal, as I have some spare and as long as the roofing holds. I am planning to continue the build on Wednesday, as we have one week off for winter break...

Today I was finally able to spend some time on the shed. As it was very windy today, I first focused on improving the hold of the corrugated roofing by placing a screw on every wave (before it only was on every second wave) and adding a third row of screws.

IMG_20220202_123121435.jpg

While at it, I added a improvised walkway for mounting the upper part of the roofing later.
IMG_20220202_123129106_HDR.jpg

Then I decided to take care of the knee wall.
First I fitted one of my long planks with slots for the roof beams.
IMG_20220202_124951471.jpg

Then I added three more planks to create a floor without any gaps on the complete length, added another slotted plank above my first horizontal beam and fitted several uprights to hold everything in place and later fit the wall onto.

And it already serves its main purpose: storing our two large outdoor tables and benches:

I got a lot done today, some more will be done tomorrow...

And as a bonus a speed up version of the drilling part:

See you soon...

First task today was to re-cover the top section of the rear roof before the announced rain...
It doesn't look pretty, as I only had scraps on hand, but it will do for now. Maybe I'll redo it properly later...
IMG_20220203_100021448_HDR.jpg

I really have to get that roofing done!

Next on todays to-do list was covering the knee wall:

IMG_20220203_115750184.jpg

Next I wanted to put up the beams that will hold the upper (sleeping/kids) floor.

It was a bit tricky, but I got it done:

the knee wall is nice. I might have made it a railing, so that I can see/remember what's stored behind it.

Nice job on the kneewall , gives you a lot of storage space that otherwise would be wasted
Thanks! I even think about doing another one on the shorter front wall.

It will be accessible from the outside on both sides through little doors once it's all done.

Today I tackled the remaing upper roofing of the rear roof.
It's done now and I really like how it looks!

After this mayor step out of the way, I decided to take on the right side wall and start to close it off. This side will be the tool shed side and it's also the weather side. I intend to use mainly materials coming from the old shed, starting with the door.
IMG_20220204_150137958_HDR.jpg

At the moment it's only held in place by a slat screwed to the frame, as I need to buy new hinges...

Now everything is stack up nicely and covered, ready for the next round...

See you soon ..
